Use this procedure to load the version 1.09 firmware image for the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 on Cisco CallManager 3.3(3) SR1 and later. You must install the firmware image on all Cisco CallManager systems that run TFTP service.

Procedure

Step 1 Download the firmware installation file cmterm-7920-sccp.1-0-9.exe from CCO at the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ip-7900ser-crypto

Step 2 Double-click the .exe file to install the necessary firmware files in Cisco CallManager.

The version 1.09 firmware image file and load ID file for the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 are copied into the Cisco CallManager TFTPPath directory.

Step 3 Log in to the Cisco CallManager Administration application.

Step 4 From the menu bar, choose System > Device Defaults.

The Device Defaults Configuration window appears.

Step 5 Scroll down the page to Cisco 7920 in the Device Type column. In the Load Information window, ensure that this firmware image file displays:

cmterm_7920.4.0-01-09

Note Do not change any of the parameters of the firmware image file.

Step 6 Click the Update button.

Caution If you need to downgrade the firmware, you can downgrade to version 1.08 over the WLAN.
If you need to downgrade firmware to version 1.07 or earlier, you must use the Cisco 7920 Configuration Utility to perform the downgrade. When downgrading firmware, the phone configuration entries are lost and the phone resets to factory defaults. You must reconfigure the phone by using the Cisco 7920 Configuration Utility or the Network Config menu on the phone.

Using the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 with Cisco CallManager Express 3.0 or Later

If you are using the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 with Cisco CallManager Express (CME) 3.0 or later, you can download the version 1.09 firmware image file cmterm_7920.4.0-01-09.bin from Cisco.com at the following URL:

Caution If you need to downgrade the firmware, you can downgrade to version 1.08 over the WLAN.
If you need to downgrade firmware to version 1.07 or earlier, you must use the Cisco 7920 Configuration Utility to perform the downgrade. The phone is reset to factory defaults and loses the configuration entries.

Support for the Cisco 7920 Phone Type

Cisco CallManager release 3.3(3) SR1 and later includes support for the Cisco 7920 phone type in the Cisco CallManager Administration application. (Previously, there was no phone type for this phone and you had to configure it as a Cisco IP Phone 7960.)

If you upgrade to Cisco CallManager release 3.3(3) SR1 and later, you can choose the Cisco 7920 phone type when adding the wireless phone. However, if you perform the upgrade and have Cisco wireless phones on your network that were previously configured as Cisco IP Phone 7960s, you will need to remove those entries from the Cisco CallManager database and assign the Cisco 7920 phone type to these phones. See the "Re-registering the Phone Using the Cisco 7920 Phone Type" section for details.

Re-registering the Phone Using the Cisco 7920 Phone Type

If you upgrade to Cisco CallManager version 3.3(3) SR1 and later, and have Cisco wireless IP phones on your network that were previously configured as Cisco IP Phone 7960s, use the following steps to reassign these wireless IP phones with the 7920 phone type:

Procedure

Step 1 Log in to the Cisco CallManager Administration application.

Step 2 From the menu bar, choose System > Cisco CallManager.

The Cisco CallManager Configuration window appears.

Step 3 Choose Device > Phones.

Step 4 Choose the Cisco IP Phone 7960 records that match your Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920s.

Note Make a copy of the configuration before deleting these records.

Step 5 Click Delete to delete the records.

All Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920s will be deleted from the Cisco CallManager database.

Step 6 In the Cisco CallManager Configuration window, choose Device > Add a New Device.

Step 7 The Add a New Device window appears.

Step 8 Select Phone from the Device Type drop-down menu and click Next.

The Add a New Phone window appears.

Step 9 Select the Cisco 7920 phone type from the drop-down menu and click Next.

The Phone Configuration window appears.

Step 10 In the Phone Configuration window, enter information in the following fields:

MAC Address

Description

Device Pool

Phone button template

Step 11 Click Insert.

The Cisco CallManager Administration application asks if you want to assign a directory number.

Step 12 Enter the required fields.

Support for Special Loud Ring Tones

The Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 running on Cisco CallManager Release 3.3(3) SR 1 or later provides support for special loud ring tones. The loud ring tones play at 136 dBA after being initially played at 125 dBA for four seconds; these are intended for use in noisy customer environments that require louder ring tones.

Use this procedure to load the loud ring tones on the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920.

Procedure

Step 1 Download the loud ring tones zip file and Readme file from Cisco.com at this URL:

http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ip-7900ser-crypto

Step 2 Extract the ring tone files to your hard disk.

Step 3 To stop the TFTP service, from Cisco CallManager Administration, choose Applications > Serviceability> Tools > Control Center. Right-click Cisco TFTP and click Stop .

Step 4 If not already done, upgrade the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 to the version 1.09 firmware image file cmterm_7920.4.0-01-09 bin. See the "Installing the Firmware Image 1.09 with Cisco CallManager 3.3(3) Service Release 1 and Later" section for additional information.

Step 5 Back up your current ringlist.xml file because the new ringlist.xml file might not include all of your ring tones.

Step 6 Copy the special loud ring tone files (loudxxx.raw) and the associated ringlist.xml file into the C:\program files\Cisco\TFTPPath directory on the Cisco CallManager server.

Note You must copy the ring tone files. If you move the files, they do not inherit the correct permissions and the ring tones will not be accessible.

Step 7 Restart the Cisco TFTP server by choosing Applications > Serviceability> Tools > Control Center. Right-click Cisco TFTP and click Restart

Step 8 Power on the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920. The loud ring tones (loudxxx.raw) should now be available for downloading on the phone.

Step 9 To download and select a loud ring tone as the current ring tone, choose Menu > Phone Settings > Ring Tones > Download Ring Tone. Scroll to and select the desired loud ring tone. A check mark appears by the active ring tone.

Step 10 From the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920, choose Menu > Profiles to adjust the ring volume.

Note Make sure the ring volume is turned up to the maximum setting. Alternatively, you can choose the "Outdoors" profile, which is configured for the maximum volume setting.

For additional information about setting the ring volume on the phone, refer to the "Setting the Ring Volume for a Profile" section of Chapter 6, "Configuring Profiles and Phone Settings," in the Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 User Guide.

You can access the CPI tool from the Cisco Technical Support Website by clicking the Tools & Resources link under Documentation & Tools. Choose Cisco Product Identification Tool from the Alphabetical Index drop-down list, or click the Cisco Product Identification Tool link under Alerts & RMAs. The CPI tool offers three search options: by product ID or model name; by tree view; or for certain products, by copying and pasting show command output. Search results show an illustration of your product with the serial number label location highlighted. Locate the serial number label on your product and record the information before placing a service call.

Submitting a Service Request

Using the online TAC Service Request Tool is the fastest way to open S3 and S4 service requests. (S3 and S4 service requests are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) After you describe your situation, the TAC Service Request Tool provides recommended solutions. If your issue is not resolved using the recommended resources, your service request is assigned to a Cisco TAC engineer. The TAC Service Request Tool is located at this URL:

http://www.cisco.com/techsupport/servicerequest

For S1 or S2 service requests or if you do not have Internet access, contact the Cisco TAC by telephone. (S1 or S2 service requests are those in which your production network is down or severely degraded.) Cisco TAC engineers are assigned immediately to S1 and S2 service requests to help keep your business operations running smoothly.

To open a service request by telephone, use one of the following numbers:

Asia-Pacific: +61 2 8446 7411 (Australia: 1 800 805 227)
EMEA: +32 2 704 55 55
USA: 1 800 553-2447

Definitions of Service Request Severity

To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.

Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.

Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.

Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.

Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
