Minimum Cisco IOS Release

ESR-4OC3-ChSTM-1/OC-3=

Cisco 10000 series 4-port channelized OC-3/STM-1 (DS3/E1/DS1/DS0) SDH line card

Initial Cisco IOS releases for PRE-1:
12.0(15)SL and later releases of 12.0SL
12.0(17)ST and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.0ST
12.0(22)S and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.0S
12.2(8)BZ and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.2BZ for SDH mode.

For both SONET and SDH mode, use Cisco IOS Release 12.0(23)S and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.0S.

Initial Cisco IOS Releases for PRE-2:

12.3(7)XI and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.3XI

For both SONET and SDH mode, the use Cisco IOS Release 12.2(15)BX and later releases of Cisco IOS 12.2BX.

Cisco IOS Release 12.2(28)SB and later releases of Cisco IOS Release 12.2(28)SB

For registered Cisco.com users, use Software Advisor to determine the software releases for this line card.

The 4-port channelized OC-3/STM-1 line card uses fractional T1 (n x DS0), DS-1, E1, fractional E1
(n x DS0) and DS3 IP services to connect ISP customers to the network backbone. It provides full duplex operation at OC-3 bandwidth rates using a (single-mode) fiber optic port that provides the Cisco 10000 series router with one interface that connects up to 768 individual channelized options.

The 4-port channelized OC-3/STM-1 line card has four single-mode, intermediate-reach LC OC-3/STM-1 duplex optical connectors.

The line card can be configured into either SONET or SDH mode.

When configured for SONET mode, each OC-3 port carries three DS3 (full rate, subrate, or channelized down to DS1) channels, or 84 individual DS1s, each capable of carrying a single channel at full or fractional rates.

When configured for SDH mode, each STM-1 port carries three DS3 (full rate, subrate, or channelized) channels, 84 individual DS1s, or 63 individual E1s; each DS1/E1 is capable of carrying a single channel at full or fractional rates. The line card runs in either E1 or T1 mode, but no mixture of T1/E1 is supported.

Each STM-1 port supports up to 192 channels, for a total of 768 channels per line card. The total number of channels cannot exceed the chassis scaling limits.

Software and Hardware Compatibility

To check the minimum software requirements of Cisco IOS software with the hardware installed on your router, Cisco maintains the Software Advisor tool on Cisco.com. This tool does not verify whether line cards within a system are compatible, but does provide the minimum Cisco IOS requirements for individual hardware line cards, modules, or options.

Note Access to this tool is limited to users with Cisco.com login accounts.

To access Software Advisor, click Login at Cisco.com, type Software Advisor in the SEARCH box, and click Go. Click the link for the Software Advisor tool.

Choose a product family or enter a specific product number to search for the minimum supported software release needed for your hardware.
