Installing the IPM Client Software Using the Web Server
You can use the IPM web server to download and install the IPM client software. Using the web server allows you to perform remote installation of the client software without mounting the IPM CD-ROM.
This chapter provides information on the following topics:
•
Requirements for Using the Web Server
•
Downloading the IPM Client Software
•
Installing the IPM Client Software
•
Removing the Download Directory
Requirements for Using the Web Server
Before you can install the IPM client using the web interface, the IPM server software must already be installed and the client workstation must have network access to the IPM server. In addition, you need to have the following information and resources:
•
60 MB hard disk space on the client workstation
•
Netscape Communicator version 4.05 or later (or Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 or later for Windows NT clients only)
•
URL for the web server
The URL for the web server is provided in the output listing of the server installation program. To see a sample of this URL information in an output listing, look at the end of the installation example provided in the "Sample Installation Output for Sun Solaris" section in the "" appendix.
The URL specifies the server's host name and port number to access the web server. The following is an example of the URL format:
http://ipm_host_name:1744Where:
ipm_host_name is the name of the IPM server system.
1744 is the port number of the web server on the IPM server (note that this value might vary on your server system).
Downloading the IPM Client Software
This section describes accessing the web server and downloading the IPM client software for each available platform.
To download the IPM client software using the web server complete the following steps:
Step 1
From your browser, go to the URL that was specified in the output listing of the IPM server installation. The Cisco Internetwork Performance Monitor (IPM) home page appears ().
Step 2

Installing the IPM Client Software
More detailed instructions about installing the IPM client software are provided in the platform-specific chapters of this book. Basic instructions for installing the IPM client software are also provided on the web page.
For example, the "Installing the IPM Client on Sun Solaris Using the Web Server" section in the "" chapter provides specific information for installing the IPM client software from the CD-ROM or using the web server on a Sun Solaris system.
Removing the Download Directory
After you have successfully installed and verified the installation of the IPM client software, you can remove the download and CDImage directories on your system.
