The Flash File System tool is used to manage Flash files such as router image and router configuration files. Before you can manage the Flash File System, you must configure your network management workstation and configure each router on which Flash files are to be managed for Flash administration. For instructions on configuring for Flash administration, as well as detailed help of the functions for the Flash File System, see the online help.

The Flash File System is supported by all routers in the Cisco 7000 series, which consists of the Cisco 7000, 7010, 7204, 7206, uBR7246, 7505, 7507, and 7513. The Flash File System tool is not supported under Windows 95. It is supported only for the UNIX and Windows NT operating system. The Flash File System requires Cisco IOS version 10.2 or later for Cisco 7000 series routers and Cisco IOS version 11.0 or greater for 7200/7500 series routers.

Accessing the Flash File System

To access the Flash File System, do the following:

Step 1 Go to CiscoView - Main window.

Note   For information on device display setup requirements, starting CiscoView, and opening an installed device, refer to Chapter 1, "Introducing CiscoView."

Step 2 Select File>Open Device.

Step 3 Enter the IP address or host name of a device in the Cisco 7000 series in the Host field.

Step 4 Enter the Read community string.

Step 5 Enter the Write community string.

Step 6 Click OK.

Step 7 Select Admin>Flash File Systems. The Flash File System main window appears.

Understanding the Flash File System Main Window

The Flash File System main window has two panes:

•Local File System—Displays files on the system running CiscoView

•Remote File System—Displays files in any Flash memory device on the router

The window also contains buttons that perform the functions described in .

Arrows	Copies a selected file from one file system to the other
Close	Closes the Flash File System tool
Help	Displays online help
Edit	Allows you to view and edit selected files
Delete	Deletes the selected file
Squeeze	Deletes the space in Flash memory left by a deleted file
Erase	Erases all the files in Flash memory and squeezes the space
