Emirates Computers helps the International School of Choueifat build fast Ethernet Network
The International School of Choueifat, member of the SABIS School Network, is a network of schools with branches across the Gulf as well as the Levant region and Pakistan. Although the mother school was established in 1886 in Lebanon, the first branch of The International Schools of Choueifat in the Gulf began operations in 1975-76. There are now nine schools located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Al-Ain, Ras-Al-Khaimah, Ruwais, Um-Al-Quwain, Doha and Muscat.
During the last twenty-seven years, hundreds of students have graduated from The International Schools of Choueifat in the Gulf region and then graduated from top universities in the world.
All the branches of the International Schools of Choueifat (ISC) have the same curriculum irrespective of the region they are based. Because of their huge network and the connectivity of all the schools together, ISC was looking for a scalable Fast Ethernet Network which would not only help it reduce traffic between the network but also help in full usage of bandwidth while transferring data over the WAN.
The Right Partner
"We had an Ethernet network in place but it was not meeting our requirements in terms of traffic and bandwidth. We were looking for alternatives which were not only flexible and scalable with higher bandwidth but also cost-effective. Emirates Computers studied our requirements and came up with a solution which was addressing our needs well," said Mr. Charles Salameh, IT Manager of The International School of Choueifat - khalifa City.
"We evaluated Fast Ethernet solutions from multiple vendors and chose to go with Emirates Computers. We selected Cisco's switches and routers because it is standards-based with a reliable, secure, scalable and affordable interface. The Cisco solution will help ISC maintain cost-effectiveness while decreasing traffic and increasing bandwidth over our network," Mr. Charles added.
Emirates Computers helped ISC shift and migrate the whole network setup which was previously built on 3 Com and Dlink to Cisco's Switches and Routers. Emirates Computers used Cisco Layer 2, layer 3 and Core switches (2960, 3560, 3750 to name a few and Cisco routers to build the fast Ethernet Network for ISC.
"We are delighted ISC trusted us with this project. We worked closely with them to understand the limitations they faced on their previous network. Our team worked out a design for ISC using Cisco switches and routers essentially keeping the technology (switching) the same but with better features and benefits of the manageable switches of Cisco," said Mr. Dani Diab, Vice- President & General Manager Abu Dhabi - Emirates Computers.
"Fast network and scalability were the two key requirements that ISC wanted to address. We proposed that they use manageable switches from Cisco where they could configure each port of the switch to help them in doing access lists for the departments without separating the network and the physical cabling structure. We configured the switches and implemented the VLANS, Access Control Lists, Opening and Closing Ports," Mr. Diab explained.
The new fast Ethernet Network, built using Cisco's layer and core switches and routers, is helping The International Schools of Choueifat reduce network traffic considerably and increase the bandwidth. Emirates Computers has also trained the IT staff to configure the equipment for future troubleshooting.
"We are happy with the speed with which Emirates Computers implemented this project. Their team was extremely professional and offered great onsite support. Good scalable network, fast Ethernet connectivity and secure VPN WAN connectivity has helped us in implementing the Online ITL Exams for all our Schools around the UAE and GCC region, through one hosting headquarter in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi." Mr. Charles concluded.
