Cisco Internet Streamer Application Installation CD-ROM Document

Revised: March 2012 78-20748-01

Preinstalled Software Notice—Chassis Lite—CDE250-HV-2WPL-K9

This Chassis Lite system, CDE250-HV-2WPL-K9, supports the CDE250-2S6 model type and is preloaded with the TV CDS software application.

Note Chassis Lite system, CDE250-XR-2WPL-K9, supports the CDE250-2M0 model type and is already preloaded with the Internet Streamer CDS software application.

For those CDE250-2S6 applications requiring the Internet Streamer CDS software application, use the CD-ROM CDS Internet Streamer Application Installation CDROM ISO, PN 80-10194-XX to automatically install Release 2.6.1 of the Internet Streamer CDS software application. Full instructions are included in the following text.

Note The estimated automatic installation time is 30 minutes.

The following items are required to install the Internet Streamer CDS software:

CDE250-HV-2WPL-K9 RMA Chassis Lite

External USB DVD-ROM drive (PID CDE3-ACC-DVD or equivalent)

24x 160GB solid state drives (SSDs) (saved from original system)

CD-ROM CDS Internet Streamer Application Installation CDROM ISO, PN 80-10194-XX

2x power supplies, (saved from original system)

Terminal server or terminal server emulator (settings: 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity)

Console connection cable

Specific instructions follow.

Installing CDS Internet Streamer Application onto a CDE 250

Returned RMA Chassis Lite units targeting the CDE250-2S6 model (CDE250-HV-2WPL-K9) are preloaded with TV CDS software because both TV CDS and Internet Streamer CDS software applications are supported by the same CDE250-2S6 hardware platform.

For platforms requiring the Internet Streamer CDS software application, you must install the software using the CD-ROM. The CDS Internet Streamer Application Installation CDROM ISO, PN 80-10194-XX is an automated version of the similar "CDS Rescue CD" ISO image file found on the Cisco software download website, and installs the Internet Streamer CDS Release 2.6.1 software.

While either the CD-ROM or the "CDS Rescue CD" ISO image file will work, the automated version is preferred as it duplicates the manufacturing process.

For additional information on this procedure, see the "Upgrading to Release 2.6.1" chapter in the Cisco Internet Streamer CDS 2.6 Software Upgrade Guide (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/cds/cda/is/2_6/upgrade_guide/upgrade.html).

Before You Begin

You need the following to install Internet Streamer CDS software onto your CDE250 chassis lite:

CDE250-HV-2WPL-K9 Chassis Lite:

Reinstall your own 24x 160GB SSDs (to create CDE250-2S6 model)

Reinstall your own 2x power supplies

Reinstall your own SFP+ modules into the 10 GbE ports

External USB DVD-ROM drive or CD-ROM drive (CDE3-ACC-DVD or equivalent)

Internal IDE Compact Flash (CF) drive (preinstalled in CDE250 platforms and chassis lite)

Terminal server connection with the following parameters:

9600 baud

8 bits

No parity

Note Release 2.6.1 and later releases of the Cisco Internet Streamer CDS software support both serial console connections and local monitor connections for the rescue/installation CD-ROM. When you boot a CDS device from the rescue/installation CD-ROM, you are prompted to select the serial console or the local monitor using the arrow keys. Serial console is the default and if no entry is made, the serial console is used.

Console connection

Note On the CDE, use the USB port to connect the external USB DVD-ROM drive. Use the external USB DVD-ROM drive for all procedures that require a DVD-ROM drive. After the initial installation, remove the external USB DVD-ROM drive. The internal IDE CF drive becomes the boot drive for subsequent operations.

Installing onto a CDE250

Perform the following steps to boot a CDE and start the automated installation process:

Step 1 Ensure that the CDE is powered off.

Step 2 Attach the USB DVD-ROM drive to any available USB port at the rear of the CDE (see numbers 6-12 in Figure 1).

Figure 1 CDE250 Rear View

Step 3 Attach a power cord (number 1), terminal server console serial port (number 4), and keyboard (number 2) to the CDE (see Figure 1).

Step 4 Insert the CDS Internet Streamer Application Installation CDROM ISO Installation CD-ROM in the DVD-ROM drive.

The system boots from the image on the CD-ROM. This requires a terminal server to be hooked up to the serial port of the CDE. All communication is done through the serial port (see the "Before You Begin" section for terminal server settings).

Note Boot and installation output is directed to the terminal server console and cannot be viewed from a monitor.

Step 5 Power on the external USB DVD-ROM drive, if not USB-powered.

Step 6 Power on the CDE.

Once the CD starts booting, it displays a spinning "|" symbol for approximately five minutes. Allow the booting to proceed and monitor the sequence from a remote terminal provided by the terminal server.

Note Unlike the Rescue CD-ROM installation process, the installation CD-ROM process is fully automated. No manual intervention is required.

Step 7 Installation process takes 20-30 minutes. Monitor the console output for:

Manufacture complete.
Please remove the CD and reboot.

Step 8 Remove the USB-DVD ROM from CDE and power-cycle the CDE to reboot.

Sample Output of CD-ROM Installation

Following is an example of the typical Installation CD-ROM console output that is directed to the terminal server connection:
