Support for Class B End Devices in the LoRaWAN Network
The Cisco Industrial Routers, such as IR1101 and IR1800 are equipped with the Common Packet Forwarder (CPF) and Long-Range Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN) Protocol Interface Module (PIM) that support Class B end devices.
End devices that support Class B mode in a LoRaWAN network, such as LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensors, can receive time-synchronized beacons from the Cisco Wireless Gateway. These beacons allow the end devices to open receive windows, known as ping slots, enabling the network to send downlink data to the end devices.
See LoRaWAN PIM Installation and Configuration for more information.
Note |
There are no new commands for transitioning to or utilizing Class B Mode. |
Ensure that the following prerequisites are met to establish communication between the sensors and the LoRaWAN network:
-
Power on the End Devices or LoRaWAN sensors and onboard in LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS).
-
Insert LoRaWAN PIM in IR1101 and IR1800 and Configure the LoRaWAN PIM.
