Introduction

Poll Clock Errors are detected when the POLLCLK distributed by the active Broadband Controller Card (BCC) to each of the other cards stops for some reason. This occurs when the count is in 100 millisecond periods.

What Do the Errors Mean?

The card is unable to transmit data across the backplane without POLLCLK. It is possible for other functions and error counts to be affected.

caution Caution:  This is a very serious failure.

How Do I Make the Errors Go Away?

If only one card indicates the failure, you can try another card that does not indicate the failure in that same slot. If this card does not show a failure, then the original card is defective and must be replaced. If the new card also shows the failure, then the cause of this failure is the backplane or the BCC.

You can issue the switchcc command to make the active BCC the standby, then replace that BCC with a good unit. In order to check again for errors, you can issue another switchcc command to make that BCC active. If the errors are gone, return the BCC through the return materials authorization (RMA) procedure. If the I/O card and BCC are OK, it is possible that the backplane is defective and requires a replacement.

caution Caution:  It is an extreme action to replace the backplane. You can repeat these steps to verify that the BCC is free of error.
