Components Used

The information in this document is based on the hardware below:

  • Cisco 74xx Series Routers with SanDisk and Hitachi Flash disks

The information presented in this document was created from devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If you are working in a live network, ensure that you understand the potential impact of any command before using it.

Background

Field Notice: Flash Disk Failure on Cisco 7401ASR describes a problem involving Flash disk failure on the 7401ASR, and advises that failing Hitachi 128MB Flash disks be replaced.

The procedure presented here helps you identify which card is in the box, and if it is indeed the Hitachi card that should be replaced per the Field Notice.

Procedure

To determine which Flash disk is installed in the router, execute the show disk command from the enable-mode command prompt.

When executing the show disk command, a 128 MB Hitachi card will have 978 cylinders, while the same command executed on a SanDisk 128 MB Flash disk will show 980 cylinders.

The outputs for an Hitachi 128 MB disk and a SanDisk 128 MB disk are shown below:
