Field Notice: Changing Country Codes on AS5200 Microcom Modems

Revised August 22, 2002

Summary:

Currently the documentation does not explain how to set the country code on Microcom modems in the AS5200. Below is the procedure to follow for setting country codes with the current IOS s/w. The IOS s/w will be updated with a global configuration command based on DDTS CSCdi83222 to make the numeric country code (Figure 1) details of the specific modems hidden from the customer in the future.

The country code must be set on each modem according to the country in which it is installed. The AT command for setting the country code is:

AT-InZ

Where n = the corresponding numeric code, 0d1 to 0d26. The code will not take effect until the Z (reset) has been sent as well.

WARNING!!!

The following country codes all set s-register 0 = 002 (i.e. answer on the 2nd ring) by default.

14

Switzerland

18

Czech Republic

23

Belgium

25

France

This conflicts with current IOS release software default feature "modem fast-answer" which issues only one ring.

If the required country code matches anyone of these four countries, then the following command sequence should be performed.

  1. The configuration command " no modem fast-answer" must be executed first.

  2. Enter the appropriate country code using AT cmd AT-InZ, with "n" being one of the following country codes..

If the above sequence is not followed for the special four country codes, the modems will be unable to answer incoming analog calls as there is no second ring when the IOS fast-answer feature is enabled.

Note 1: The US country code also applies to Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Peru, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Note 2: UK country code also used for Saudi Arabia, Hungary, and Greece.

Once the modem country code command has been issued it will remain in effect until another -I command is sent OR until the firmware is reloaded. It will remain unchanged by subsequent ATZ (reset) or AT&F (Factory Default) commands issued to the modem so dialer scripts and autoconfig strings will have no effect on the country code setting unless the country command is edited into such a string. Power cycling the router will not alter the country code setting either. Only firmware reloads or subsequent -I commands will do so. Firmware reloads will always set the modems to USA.
