Problem Description

Network Convergence System (NCS) 6000 linecards, as mentioned in the Products Affected section, are not compatible with Cisco IOS^® XR software releases earlier than 7.0.1 or without the mandatory Software Maintenance Upgrade (SMU).

Background

A new hardware version for the products will be introduced to address the End of Life (EoL) of an existing memory component. This version will be supported by Cisco IOS XR Software Release 7.0.1 or later only.

For software releases earlier than 7.0.1, a mandatory restart/reload SMU needs to be installed.

Problem Symptom

The NCS 6000 linecards might observe traffic issues when they operate with a noncompatible Cisco IOS XR software release or without the mandatory SMU since certain settings are not aligned for earlier releases.

Workaround/Solution

The NCS 6000 linecards which run on Cisco IOS XR software releases earlier than 7.0.1 require one of these options in order to support the new hardware version.

Option 1. Install the SMUs

Option 2. Upgrade

Cisco IOS XR software can be migrated to one of the latest Cisco IOS XR software releases, 7.0.1 or later. These releases do not require any of the SMUs.

How To Identify Affected Products

Refer to this table in order to find the affected Version ID (VID). The VID can be identified through the CLI or physically on the linecard label.
