Problem Description

Video feed from medical devices with standard definition aspect ratios of 4:3 (square) displays as high definition or 16:9 aspect ratio video feed (widescreen) and appears stretched.

Background

Cisco engineering designed the firmware for Cisco TelePresence VX Clinical Assistant (VXCA) Versions 1.0 and 1.1 to completely fill the screen when they transmit video. As a result, video feed from medical devices with standard definition aspect ratios of 4:3 automatically displays as high definition or 16:9 aspect ratio video feed to fill the entire monitor display and appears stretched.

Problem Symptoms

When you use a medical device with standard definition, such as composite or S-video/National Television System Committee (NTSC) or Phase Alternating Line (PAL), that has aspect ratios of 4:3 (square), the image on the Cisco TelePresence VXCA displays as high definition or 16:9 aspect ratio video feed (widescreen) and appears stretched.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco has included an enhancement in the WIL-D-001 Scaler Software Version 1.0(3) that automatically adjusts the aspect ratio. It is recommended that customers who use standard definition input devices update Cisco TelePresence VXCA Scaler firmware to Version 1.0(3) or later. The firmware and step-by-step instruction are available on this website. There is also an instructional video, Cisco TelePresence VX Clinical Assistant: WIL-D-001 Scaler Software Upgrade Video.
