Problem Description

A batch of WS-X6582-2PA cards in the 7600 platform may fail when booting under temperature below 15C.

The failure condition may manifest when the card is powered up (booted) for the first time. Cards in working mode are not expected to exhibit this failure.

Background

Due to a delay in the early start up of the 1.2 voltage rails during the Power up sequence, a batch of WS-X6582-2PA cards in the 7600 platform have been shown to be prone to fail when booting under temperature below 15C.

The failure condition may manifest when the card is powered up (booted) for the first time. Cards in working mode are not expected to exhibit this failure.

Problem Symptoms

WS-X6582-2PA cards on the 7600 platform failed to boot up at low temperature. This problem happens only to new cards that have not been installed or are not in full operation.

Detailed failure symptoms are:

  1. %OIR-SP-6-PWRFAILURE: Module 1 is being disabled due to power convertor failure 0x1
  2. %C7600_PWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 1 set off (FRU-power failed)
  3. The card will not boot-up during the initial boot-up phase only.

If a card is in operation, this problem does not occur during any reboot cycle.

Workaround/Solution

Cisco recommends replacing the affected WS-X6582-2PA cards identified as per table below.

Card TAN or Part number Action Affected SN Card In Operation Potential failure Replace
73-9539-08_A0 and lower Serial Number Checking Tool Yes No Yes Yes
73-9539-08_A0 and lower Serial Number Checking Tool Yes Yes No Recommended
73-9539-09_A0 and higher No Action required No NA No No

How To Identify Hardware Levels

There are two ways to identify the hardware levels:

  1. Customers may check the S/N using this CLI command.

  2. Customers may also physically check the Line Card.

Refer to this image for the location of the TAN and Serial number. Then use the SN Checking Tool to check if the card is affected by this potential problem:
