Problem Description

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 prompted changes to CatOS/Hybrid software to allow network administrators to make appropriate changes to facilitate the new DST standards. Since the code was modified to include the Daylight Savings changes, various software defects have been discovered in Catalyst 6K product family CATOS/Hybrid software.

Background

The operating systems of most Cisco products that support Daylight Saving Time (DST) have built in mechanisms to automatically change the times, based on current user-selected rules.

Several key issues have been identified since the DST code changes were implemented, which may cause various issues as noted in the DDTS list below for the Catalyst 6K product family running CATOS/Hybrid software. The most serious issue being the potential for the switch to crash when the system time reaches summertime end date, as noted in DDTS CSCsi00968.

This is a day one issue, so the best solution is to migrate your Catalyst 6K product family running CATOS/Hybrid software to the highest common denominator of software which is inclusive of all software defect resolutions as noted in the Workaround/Solution section of this Field Alert.

Problem Symptoms

Supervisor reset or switchover to standby Supervisor in redundant Supervisor instances is the most serious. Other related problem symptoms are detailed in the DDTS list.

Workaround/Solution

These issues are resolved by upgrading Catalyst 6K product families running CATOS/Hybrid Supervisor software to a minimum software version of:

7.6(22), 8.6(3) and higher.
