Bare Fab number is 28-4734-02. Only bare fabs with date code 1302 are affected. Requires visual inspection to identify. Only 19 units exposed to this defect have been shipped.

Problem Description

Up to 19 MGX-SRME (MGX Service Redundancy Module Enhanced) units were shipped with a defective fab. This defect results in poor electrical connections between the printed circuit board and U36, the crossbar integrated circuit.

This defect is caused by "black pads" or solder pads which have not been properly made resulting in the solder not flowing and adhering to the solder pad. Such defects may result in intermittent failures or complete failure. In addition such defects may result in non-intermittent failure after a period of working properly.

Problem Symptoms

This solder defect was discovered through visual inspection after some MGX-SRME failures were observed during manufacturing test. Since the defective solder pads are connected to the crossbar circuit, failure symptoms may include user data errors, board failure or other intermittent data errors or board status.

There is no solution other than to replace the defective card. Use the SVO Tool on to initiate the return materials authorization (RMA). In addition, please use the RMA code Administrative Request Field Notice (ARFN) when submitting the RMA.

warning Warning:?Under no circumstances should you try to solder the defective pads since the affected solder pads are underneath U36, the crossbar circuit chip.

How To Identify Hardware Levels

Only hardware version 800-14224-02 revision A are affected.

Note:?Cisco shipped only 19 or fewer of the at-risk units to the field therefore not all version 800-14224-02 revision A cards are affected. The date code (1302) on the MGX-SRME should be verified before replacement.
