RAID Firmware Upgrade

Problem Description

The CallManager OS installation will fail without this firmware upgrade. This RAID update is required to run the CallManager OS Install version 2000.1.2 on the IBM x340 or x342.

Problem Symptoms

When using the OS 2000.1.2 Disk 1 to begin the installation process on the IBM xSeries 340 or 342, the installation becomes stuck in a loop.

In the installation process, one of steps is to upgrade the ServeRAID BIOS from version 4.70.17 to version 4.80.26. When the CallManager OS CD starts, it checks for the correct hardware and then displays the screen called IBM ROM Update Program. On this screen, it says in effect that the ServeRAID-4Lx in slot 02 is going to be upgraded from version 4.70.17 to version 4.80.26 and the status is update.

The server then reboots, the ServeRAID BIOS is not upgraded and the process gets stuck in this loop. The same thing will happen if a newer version of the ServeRAID BIOS is installed, including the currently available 4.84 version.

Workaround/Solution

Manually upgrade or downgrade the ServeRAID BIOS to 4.80.26 and run the CallManager OS CD 1 again.

To manually upgrade or downgrade the ServeRAID BIOS to 4.80.26, use the following procedure. To follow the link below, you must be a registered user and you must be logged in.

  1. Download the file IBMRAID480.exe from the CallManager and Voice Apps Crypto Software site.

  2. Place a blank floppy disk into the floppy drive.

  3. Execute the IBMRAID480.exe file and answer the prompts to create the floppy disk.

  4. Place this floppy disk in the a: drive of the 342 and power on the 342. The ServeRAID BIOS will be upgraded to 4.80.26.

  5. After the ServeRAID BIOS is upgraded, place the CallManager OS CD 1 into the CD-ROM drive. The installation process will now continue.
