Problem Description

During software installation or upgrade of Cisco Unified Communications products with DVD media, the software installation process asks the user for input to perform a media check; the default selection is yes.

If the user selects yes (default) the media check fails on most systems on which the DVD media was manufactured between February, 2011 and May, 2011. The user is asked to abort the install/upgrade or proceed.

Background

Cisco performed a DVD vendor change February 2011. During this change, we also upgraded our disk imaging system to accommodate our dual-layer DVD requirements. Cisco found that the new imaging system was incorrectly modifing the DVD volume-label, leading to checksum issues and causing the media check to fail during the application installation process.

Problem Symptoms

Software installation or upgrades of Unified Communications products might fail with an alarm of:

"The media check of the image: DVD is complete, and the result is: FAIL.

The image which was just tested has errors. This could be due to a corrupt download or a bad disc. If applicable, please clean the disc and try again. If this test continues to fail, you should not continue the install."

Workaround/Solution

Workaround:

Customers who experience this issue can perform a manual / attended install or upgrade and then choose to skip the media check. After skipping the media check, the install/upgrade will complete normally.

Note: Skipping the media check when there are actual media failures could result in installation failure and/or unexpected system performance.

Solution:

For customers who want to execute the media check successfully, new DVD media is required.

Customers with a Cisco contract can order new media via Product Upgrade Tool (PUT).

Customers that do not have a contract, but are under the new product warranty period, should contact their Cisco account team to obtain a new media kit.
