Cisco ONS 15454

Formerly Cerent 454

Problem Description

  • The Protection Switch Channel Mismatch Alarm is improperly generated

  • The Transaction Language 1 (TL1) command Retrieve Alarm All is not capturing all outstanding alarms.

Background

During testing of the Cerent 454 CMS at a customer lab, these two problems were discovered. Additional comments and caveats can be found in the Release 1.03 General Release Document, which accompanies the maintenance release CD-ROM.

Problem Symptoms

  1. Channel Mismatch.

When connected to a non-Cerent piece of equipment via an OCn 1+1 unidirectional Automatic Protection Switching (APS) connection, the Cerent 454 raises a Channel Mismatch alarm if the non-Cerent equipment is not sending a Channel ID of "1" on the working channel. GR-253-CORE specifies that this alarm should be raised. However, many other Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) vendors do not adhere to this channel ID transmission scheme, and they do not raise Channel Mismatch alarms.

  2. RTRV-ALM-ALL.

In certain circumstances, the TL1 command RTRV-ALM-ALL does not return all outstanding alarms.

Workaround/Solution

The Cisco Field Service organization will contact you about distribution of this software release. Upgrade the system software to maintenance release 1.0.3 using the upgrade procedure in the Cerent User Documentation on the software CD.
