Introduction

This document describes how to verify and change the Retriever polling interval to the Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) server in Cisco Interaction Manager (CIM).

Background Information

The eGActiveDB includes a setting within the egpl_pref_globasettings table that increases or decreases the Retriever polling interval to the POP3 server. However, this setting is not visible through the User Interface (UI).

Here is the value that controls the polling interval:

mail.retriever.servicedelay => 30 secs (default).

The Retriever connects to the POP3 server, checks each alias, and retrieves the email. After it completes this cycle, it sleeps for 30 seconds. This setting reflects the delay that the Retriever uses between each cycle in order to fetch the emails from the POP3 server.

Verify the Configuration Setting

Use this query from the eGActiveDB in order to view the setting in your Cisco Interaction Manager (CIM) environment:

select * from egpl_pref_globalsettings where setting_name like
 'mail.retriever.servicedelay'

In order to view the relevant fields for this setting, use this query:

select SETTING_NAME, SETTING_ACT_VAL, SETTING_DEF_VAL from
 egpl_pref_globalsettings where setting_name like
 'mail.retriever.servicedelay'

Note: In this query, the SETTING_ACT_VAL represents the current setting, where SETTING_DEF_VAL is the 30-second default value.

Change the Configuration Setting

In order to facilitate a change to the configuration setting, use this update statement:

update egpl_pref_globalsettings set setting_act_val = 120 where
 setting_name like 'mail.retriever.servicedelay'

The update statement produces this result:

Use this query once again in order to verify the changes:

select SETTING_NAME, SETTING_ACT_VAL, SETTING_DEF_VAL from
 egpl_pref_globalsettings where setting_name like
 'mail.retriever.servicedelay'

Note: A change in this value affects the email processing on the CIM-side, but it is not implemented until the Retriever service is restarted.

Restart the Retriever Service

Complete these steps in order to restart the Retriever service:

  1. Log on to the CIM system console (Partition=0).
  2. Stop the Retriever at the Instance level, and navigate to System / System > Partitions > Default > Services > Email > Retriever.
  3. Highlight the rx-instance, and click the Stop button in the List pane.

  4. Stop, and then restart the Retriever at the Service level, and navigate to System / System > Shared Resources > Services > Email > Retriever.
  5. Highlight the rx-process, click the Stop button, and then click the Start button in the List pane.

Note: Verify that this is in a Running state before you attempt to start the instance again.

  6. Start the Retriever at the Instance level, and navigate to System / System > Partitions > Default > Services > Email > Retriever.
  7. Highlight the rx-instance, and click the Start button in the List pane.

    This completes the process.
