Industry Solutions Architect
Stuart Higgins is Cisco's healthcare industry solution architect in the Enterprise Solutions Engineering - Industry Solutions Engineering team. In this role, his primary focus is creation of healthcare related solution architectures as well as leading an engineering team in the validation of the healthcare solutions Cisco brings to market. Higgins joined Cisco as an application solution architect, responsible for the clinical application architecture in support of Cisco's healthcare solutions. Previously he spent 17 years at Shared Medical Systems / Siemens Medical, beginning his tenure as an IBM MVS/CICS systems programmer focusing on the ASP hosted clinical applications that served more than 1200 healthcare customers and over 600,000 users. During the industry move to client-server computing, he focused on methods to provide connectivity between mainframe-based systems and distributed PC-based computing platforms, then he transitioned into networking. In his role as an advisor for the Siemens Medical Networking business unit, Higgins focused on the network architecture needed to provide availability, scalability, and security for what has become the world's largest privately held healthcare network. During this time he designed new campus, data center, and wireless networks for Siemens Medical's customers. With more than 21 years of experience in the healthcare field, ranging from clinical applications through complex large scale internetworking, Higgins has a broad range of real-world expertise to offer Cisco's healthcare customers as well as medical device manufacturers. He holds CCIE certification 3194.
