The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS is part of a family of best-in-class customer premises equipment (CPE) that provides a new, cost-effective interconnection solution to service providers looking to accelerate the migration of their small and medium-sized business customers from time-division multiplexing (TDM) voice to voice over IP (VoIP).
The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS is a fixed-configuration platform with analog voice ports, a T1/E1 WAN port, a voice digital signal processor (DSP) on the motherboard, embedded encryption acceleration, an intrusion prevention system (IPS), and IP Security (IPsec) features, all in a desktop device that simplifies service provider deployments of managed services.
Q. What's the difference between the Cisco IAD2431-8FXS and the new Cisco IAD2435-8FXS?
A. The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS is a fixed-configuration device, while the Cisco IAD2431-8FXS is a modular platform.
The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS has a T1/E1 WAN port, RJ-21 connectors supporting eight analog FXS voice ports, two 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet ports, and one console/auxiliary port.
The Cisco IAD2431-8FXS has one open voice/WAN interface card (VWIC) slot, which can support a wide variety of WAN and voice cards. It has one 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet port, compared to two 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet ports on the IAD2435-8FXS.

A. The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS is a fixed-configuration platform. The device ships with the following hardware interfaces:

A. No. The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS ships with 256 MB of DRAM, which is sufficient for the intended use of the product.
Q. What does the virtual auxiliary port do?
A. The console/auxiliary port on the Cisco IAD2435-8FXS supports modem control signals. When an external modem is connected to this port, it can be used for out-of-band remote management of the device or as a backup WAN interface. An optional RJ-45 to DB-25 cable is available as an orderable option to connect modems to this port. Any Hayes-compatible modem or terminal adapter can be connected to this port. The console port will behave like a standard Cisco auxiliary (AUX) port if configured as such and can provide bit rates of up to 115.2 kbps.

A. The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS is supported by Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(22)T and later.

A. The Cisco IAD2435-8FXS supports two Cisco IOS Software images. IP Voice is the base image bundled in the platform. The Advanced IP Services image may be ordered as an option if there is a need for additional security.

It supports the same voice features as the rest of the IAD2430 family, including industry-standard protocols like Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP), and H.323.
