Cisco Systems ® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates of the Cisco ® Catalyst ® 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC, Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC and MSFC2, Supervisor Engine 1A with 2 gigabit ports and the Switch Fabric Module 1. Cisco also is announcing the change in orderability for the Catalyst 6503, 6506, and 6509 Supervisor Engine 1A-2GE Wiring Closet Bundles and Catalyst 6509 core bundles. The last day to order the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC, Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC and MSFC2, Supervisor Engine 1A with 2 gigabit ports, the Switch Fabric Module 1 and 6509 Supervisor Engine 1A-2GE Wiring Closet Bundles and Catalyst 6500 16-port and 32-port Gigabit Ethernet bundles is March 25, 2005. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until March 25, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC, Supervisor Engine 1A with PFC and MSFC2 and Catalyst 6500 16-port and 32-port Gigabit Ethernet bundles. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the products listed in Table 3.

The date the document that announces the end of sale and end of life of a product is distributed to the general public.

End-of-sale date

The last date to order the product through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms. The product is no longer for sale after this date.

March 25, 2005

Last shipment date

The last-possible ship date that can be requested of Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers. Actual ship date is dependent on lead-time.

June 25, 2005

End of software maintenance releases date

The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.

Note : From the End of Software Maintenance Releases Date to the Last Date of Support ("Extended Period of Support"), Cisco will provide only Critical Software Support defined as network services impacting bugs or security vulnerabilities that have been identified by the customer to Cisco TAC and subsequently qualified via Cisco's normal evaluation process. Critical Software Support will be provided according to the following terms and conditions:

- Cisco TAC will first use commercially reasonable efforts to work with the Customer to determine the locality of impact and to find a workaround for the problem.

- If an alternative workaround is not possible during the Extended Period of Support, then Cisco will make commercially reasonable efforts to provide a bug fix solution to remedy the problem.

- If despite commercially reasonable efforts Cisco is unable to provide a software based solution, it may be necessary for the Customer to remove or upgrade the impacted software based systems to correct the problem.

End of new service attachment date

For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.

End of routine failure analysis date

The last possible date a routine failure analysis may be performed to determine the cause of product failure or defect.

End of service contract renewal date

The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.

Last date of support

The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.
