PRODUCT BULLETIN NO. 1423
Cisco Systems© announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco Legacy BXM® 8600 Broadband Cards. Cisco will continue to support software on the legacy BXM Broadband cards for a period of three years ending on July 26, 2004 and hardware for a period of five years ending on July 25, 2006. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Table 3 lists the cards that are being replaced by existing Enhanced versions of Broadband Modules that offer superior price/performance and increase in connection counts. The Enhanced BXM cards not only provide more memory, but also support advanced traffic management capabilities. Furthermore, future firmware development will take advantage of the increased memory of the Enhanced BXM cards that the Legacy BXM cards do not have.

Upgrade Information
Customers who have the Legacy BXM Broadband cards are encouraged to upgrade to the Enhanced BXM Broadband cards. BXM Broadband Card Information
The Enhanced BXM cards improve upon the current BXM cards by delivering, even more cost-effectively, the most advanced ATM switching and traffic management capabilities in the industry. A brief summary of the new features is shown below:
· Support greater cell storage and an increased number of connections (up to 32,000 connections per card with the "DX" versions)
· Improved traffic shaping granularity for each virtual interface (VI) to allow any desired shaping rate
· Provide ABR support for connections with non-AAL5 traffic
· Support features such as VC-merge and 60K VSI Connections (requires 9.3.30 Switch Software)
· Support uni-directional ForeSight® connections
· Support interworking of the port ABR segment with the ATM Forum ABR algorithm and the network ABR segment with the ForeSight ABR algorithm
The Enhanced BXM cards deliver industry-leading price per port and port densities with unmatched traffic management and QoS. The new cards build upon the BPX 8600's proven multiservice platform and help drive the continued success of the BPX 8600 series.
The Enhanced BXM cards are available in the configurator and in the pricing agent. We encourage customers to begin ordering them.
