Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco® MDS 9000 Family 4-port IP Storage Services Module. The last day to order the affected product is June 15, 2006. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until June 14, 2011.

Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 8-port IP Storage Services Module or the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 14/2-port Multiprotocol Services Module, which offer IP storage services in form factors more optimized either for iSCSI or FCIP solutions, introducing with the Cisco Multiprotocol Services Module new advanced functionalities such as hardware-based compression and encryption. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating to the replacement product.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

The recommended replacement for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 4-port IP Storage Services Module when used in iSCSI environments is the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 8-port IP Storage Services Module, offering exactly the same capabilities in an 8-port form factor for additional scalability. For SAN Extension FCIP-based applications, the recommended replacement is the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 14/2-port Multiprotocol Services Module, which offers two IP Storage Services ports enhanced with hardware-based compression and encryption in addition to fourteen 2-Gbps Fibre Channel interfaces for high-performance SAN and mainframe connectivity.

Customers may purchase the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 8-port IP Storage Services Module and the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 14/2-port Multiprotocol Services Module from EMC Corporation, IBM Corporation, Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett Packard, Xiotech, Sun, and Network Appliance, all of whom are designated Original Storage Manufacturer (OSM) or Solutions Technology Integrator (STI) partners, or from any of these companies' resellers. Cisco does not offer trade-in credits or a trade-in program.
