Cisco provides image authentication with its various IP phone protocols. Image authentication allows the phone to detect if the image has been tampered with before it is programmed into the phone. If the image fails the authentication process then the phone will reject the image. Image authentication occurs through signed files. All Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G and 7961G loads are signed and can only be upgraded or downgraded to other signed releases.
The 9.2(3) firmware uses signed (authenticated) files. This step improves IP phone security on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G and 7961G.
Before using the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G or 7961G with
Cisco Unified CallManager release 3.3 or later, you must install the
latest firmware on all Cisco Unified CallManager servers in the cluster.
Note: If you have a Cisco Unified
CallManager on Release 3.0, 3.1, or 3.2, do NOT install this
firmware. You must first upgrade your Cisco Unified CallManager to the
compatible releases listed in Table 1.

The 8.0(1) firmware release has been made available on Cisco
Unified CallManager installation CDs; however, it will not be made available on
Cisco.com due to additional bugs filed during final testing. Cisco recommends
that you instead use the updated 9.2(3) firmware load, which is now available
on Cisco.com. This recommendation is limited to this specific firmware release
and has no bearing on any other software or firmware available on Cisco Unified
CallManager CDs.
The 9.2(3) installation programs for the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7941G and 7961G are listed
below.
Note: For the Cisco Unified IP phones 7941G and 7961G, you should not add the .loads extension to the firmware version name in the Cisco Unified CallManager database.

Please note that different versions of the installer are needed for different Cisco Unified CallManager releases. Cisco Unified CallManager releases earlier than 5.0 are based on a windows server platform. For Cisco Unified CallManager release 5.0 and later are based on a Linux server platform.
For Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0, you must do all software installations and upgrades by using the Software Upgrades menu options. The system can upload and process only software that Cisco Systems approved. You cannot install or use third-party or Windows-based software applications that you may have been using with a previous version of Cisco Unified CallManager with Cisco Unified CallManager 5.0.
The Cisco Unified IP Phone Model 7941G/7961G Firmware version 9.2(3) is also supplied in a zip file, as an alternative in case a Cisco Unified CallManager is not available to run the executable installer program. The name of this file is cmterm-7941_7961-sccp.9-2-3.zip.
After unzipping the firmware files, they should be manually copied to the appropriate directory on the TFTP server.
