NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE
See how Cisco Intelligent Network Infrastructure provides advanced Quality of Service (QoS), high availability, enhanced security features and superior manageability.

ADVANCED QOS

Advanced QoS features ensure critical applications receive the bandwidth they need by differentiating and prioritizing traffic, so time-sensitive packets like voice and video are handled accordingly. QoS can be extended to the network edge, minimizing both upstream and downstream congestion. This also makes it easy to set policies on a per-user basis and frees up router processing power.

ENHANCED SECURITY

The need for security increases as services and devices are added to the network. Safeguards must be taken to ensure only authorized users can gain access to the network, to restrict access to sensitive network areas, and to prevent data and voice traffic from traveling to the wrong PC or IP phone. Cisco supports multiple layers of security for end-to-end protection of network controls and resources.

MANAGEABILITY

Cisco network management tools and software provides organizations the ability to easily deploy and manage end-to-end intelligent services, while simplifying and centralizing configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting across the entire network. As a result, IT personnel can save tremendous time managing their network for a lower cost of ownership, even as they optimize network performance, increase availability and tighten security.

iQ Magazine Leaders 2003: U.S. Department of Agriculture [web site]

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) had to make a choice—plow its old network under and plant anew, or continue tending the old, poor-yielding system. Because it had a federal mandate to reduce government paperwork and a goal to deliver services more efficiently, the USDA Service Center Agencies chose to cultivate a new network foundation. Considering the USDA’s many missions, a network-centric approach made sense.
