About Macau

Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China since 20 December 1999. It is located on the Southeast coast of China to the western bank of the Pearl River Delta. Bordering on Guangdong Province, it locates 60km from Hong Kong and 145km from the city of Guangzhou. Presently, the territory has thriving industries such as textiles, electronics and toys, and a notable tourist industry that boasts a wide range of hotels, resorts, restaurants and casinos.

 

Weather

The best Macau weather time is autumn, which is from October to December, when days are sunny and warm and the humidity low. Average temperatures range between 17°C to 24°C.

 

Dress Code

The dress code for the event is business casual. A light jacket is recommended due to the cool weather in December.

 

Local Currency

The Pataca (MOP$) is Macau 's official currency. However, the Hong Kong dollar is largely accepted as currency in Macau with a 1 to 1 exchange rate.

How to get to Macau

There are direct flights to Macau International Airport on major airlines from various cities within Asia.

 

You can also get to there by flying via Hong Kong International Airport, then taking a ferry to Macau. The "Cross Boundary Passenger Ferry Terminal" provides deluxe passenger ferry service linking Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Pearl River Delta region. A new brand "TurboJET Sea Express" runs the new service routes between HKIA and Macau SAR.

 

Passengers can transit to Macau via HKIA without the need to go through HK Customs and immigration formalities and also without the hassle of carrying their luggage to the ferry terminal.

 

The ferry ride to Macau costs about USD$28 per way and is approximately 45 minutes. Ferry tickets can be bought over the counter upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport, or reserved online at www.turbojetbooking.com.

Departure from Macau via Hong Kong

Travellers flying back to their home country via HK will have to take a ferry that departs Macau at least 3 hours prior to flight departure time.

E.g. Flight ETD: 2:00pm, Ferry to HKIA should be at 10:00am

Ferry tickets can be purchased at the Macau Ferry Terminal. Passengers are to check-in at Macau Ferry Terminal at least half an hour before sail time. Your air ticket or a print-out of your e-ticket will be required upon check-in at Macau Ferry Terminal.

 

Once you reach Hong Kong side, baggage has to be re-checked in at the respective airline check-in counters when you disembark from the Ferry.

 

Visa Information

Macau grants visa free entry to over 50 countries or territories for a stay of 30 to 90 days. If a visa is required, it can be obtained upon arrival in Macau, issued by the Immigration Department for a period of 30 days.

 

Visa application costs HKD$100, for individual travellers for a single stay of up to 30 days in Macau.

Macau International Airport

The drive from Macau International Airport to the Sofitel Macau Hotel Ponte 16 is approximately 20 minutes.

 

Macau Ferry Terminal

The drive from Macau Ferry Terminal to Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 is approximately 10 minutes. There is a complimentary shuttle bus service that runs every 15 minutes from 9am to 10pm between Sofitel Macau and Macau Ferry Terminal.

 

Airport or Ferry Terminal Transfers

Depending on your preferred travel route, return transfers to and from the Airport or Ferry Terminal will be arranged for you.
