Cisco IT depends upon a large number of business applications to manage the hundreds of processes and masses of information necessary for the smooth running of a large global business. These processes must interact with each other smoothly, and the information must be shared in common among most of these processes. This is often made more difficult by the nature of most of the enterprise business applications available in 2005 these applications are often very effective as point solutions for an individual process or problem, but difficult to integrate into a fully automated end-to-end business support model. However, there are some exceptions, business applications that integrate multiple business processes to support effective business solutions. Cisco Systems is a large enterprise business organization, with over thirty seven thousand employees and over two hundred and fifty business locations around the world. Because of its size it has encountered and found business application solutions to large numbers of business process problems, similar to problems faced by IT organizations in large Enterprise corporations everywhere. And because of Cisco IT’s adoption of Internet enabling tools and business applications to automate and integrate these solutions, these Cisco IT application solutions are often at the leading edge of business practices worldwide. Cisco IT is working to document and provide the business benefits, deployment process, and lessons learned from deploying leading-edge business applications to our customers, with the hope that our experience in this area can benefit Cisco customers and partners.
