Product Overview

Campus, a member of the CiscoWorks2000 Family of Products, is a suite of web-based network management tools that enables administrators to obtain various types of graphical views of their network topology and end-user information. Campus Manager is based on a client/server architecture that connects multiple web-based clients to a server on the network.

The CiscoWorks2000 Server supplies tools and services to the Campus Manager applications, including the Asynchronous Networks Interface (ANI) Server. The ANI Server discovers information about network devices and saves it in the ANI database for other applications, including the Campus applications, to access. For more information, refer to Getting Started with the CiscoWorks2000 Server and the CiscoWorks2000 Server and ANI Server online help.

The Campus Manager applications are:

Path Analysis—View the actual path packets are taking between end nodes on your network.

User Tracking—Locate and display data about users and hosts in your network.

Topology Services—Discover, view, and monitor the physical and logical services on your network.

Campus Upgrade Paths

You can upgrade to Campus Manager 3.0 from CWSI Campus 2.2, 2.3, or 2.4. For versions of CWSI Campus earlier than version 2.2, uninstall the application or upgrade to CWSI Campus 2.2 before upgrading to Campus 3.0.

Campus requires CiscoWorks2000 CD One Second Edition, which is the foundation for the CiscoWorks2000 Family of Products; it includes the CiscoWorks2000 Server and the ANI Server. When you install CiscoWorks2000 CD One, the previous version of CWSI Campus is removed and its database is preserved. When you install Campus Manager 3.0, the preserved database is converted to Campus Manager 3.0 format. For versions of CiscoWorks2000 CD One earlier than the Second Edition, you must upgrade to CiscoWorks2000 CD One Second Edition before installing or upgrading to Campus 3.0.

Caution Uninstalling Campus deletes the ANI database.

Server Requirements

This section describes the system requirements and recommendations for CiscoWorks2000 CD One and Campus Manager 3.0.

The minimum system requirements for CiscoWorks2000 CD One and Campus Manager are shown in Table 1-1.

Table 1-1 Server System Requirements Summary

Requirement Type
Minimum Requirement1

System hardware

IBM PC-Compatible computer with 450 MHz Intel Pentium III processor

17-inch color monitor

CD-ROM drive

Memory (RAM)

256 MB

Available drive space2

4 GB

Virtual memory equal to double the amount of memory (RAM). For example, if your system has 256 MB of RAM, you need 512 MB of virtual memory.

System software

Windows NT 4.0 Workstation or Server (with English or Japanese files) and Service Pack 53

Additional software

CiscoWorks2000 CD One Second Edition must be installed before installing Campus. If you installed CiscoWorks2000 CD One First Edition, upgrade before installing Campus Manager. Refer to Installing and Setting Up CiscoWorks2000 CD One Second Edition on Windows NT.

1 If other applications are installed, or the number of devices on your network exceeds 500, the requirements might be greater.

2 Do not install CiscoWorks2000 on a FAT file system.

3 Service Pack 6 is not supported.

Maximum Recommended Load

The maximum recommended load on servers configured with the minimum server requirements shown in Table 1-1 is 500 Cisco devices and one client at a time.

If other network management applications are installed on your server, additional resources might be required.

Server Recommendations

If your network has more than 500 Cisco devices, the following minimum requirements are recommended:

500 MHz Multiprocessor

512 MB of memory (RAM)

1 GB of virtual memory

Client Requirements

The minimum client system requirements for CiscoWorks2000 CD One and Campus Manager are shown in Table 1-2. The maximum recommended load on clients configured with the minimum requirements shown is 950 Cisco devices.

Note Before you can access Campus from a client system, the system must be properly configured. For information about configuring clients, refer to Installing and Setting Up CiscoWorks2000 CD One Second Edition.
