El router remoto realiza la traducción de direcciones de red (NAT) si la red privada 10.2.1.x accede a Internet. El tráfico de 10.2.1.x a la red privada 10.1.1.x detrás del dispositivo de seguridad PIX se excluye del proceso NAT. El túnel IPsec establece solamente si el tráfico (10.1.1.x) inicia la conexión desde el dispositivo de seguridad PIX con el router que tiene una red remota (10.2.1.x). El PIX puede iniciar conexiones al router, pero el router no puede iniciar conexiones al PIX.
Esta configuración utiliza un router Cisco IOS® para crear túneles IPsec de LAN a LAN (L2L) dinámicos con un dispositivo de seguridad que recibe direcciones IP dinámicas en su interfaz pública (interfaz externa). El protocolo de configuración dinámica de host (DHCP) proporciona un mecanismo para asignar direcciones IP dinámicamente desde el proveedor de servicios. Esto permite reutilizar las direcciones IP cuando los hosts ya no las necesitan.

En el PIX, los comandos access-list y nat 0 funcionan de manera conjunta. Cuando un usuario en la red 10.1.1.0 va a la red 10.2.1.0, la lista de acceso se utiliza para permitir que el tráfico de red 10.1.1.0 se cifre sin NAT. En el router, los comandos access-list se utilizan para permitir que el tráfico de red 10.2.1.0 se cifre sin NAT.
