You have a bag of belongings and with what little cash you have, you need to buy food to survive – for yourself and the children you sit beside. If you had a few dollars in your pocket, would you spend it on washing and drying your clothes?
This is the reality for 1 in 200 Australians and is the reality that could affect any one of us.
For people doing it tough, between hope and possible, there’s a bridge. The bridge is you and I and Orange Sky.
Keep the vans moving, the showers running, the conversations flowing.
That’s 1 in every 200 people.
Orange Sky was founded by two mates from Brisbane, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett. On a mission to build a safe and supportive environment for our friends doing it tough, they launched Orange Sky to provide a regular laundry and shower service but most importantly, connection and conversation.
Every day, they pull out 6 orange chairs around Australia and facilitate genuine and non-judgmental conversations. The 6 orange chairs are the bridge to human connection for people who are too often ignored and disconnected from the community.
Orange Sky operates 220 shifts across 22 locations every week around Australia.
To date, they’ve provided 81,655 loads of washing, 6,010 warm showers and most importantly, 137,778 hours of genuine and non-judgmental conversation.
These holidays, support us to drive 100,000 more hours of human connection for people doing it tough.
"We have a simple formula; we provide a platform for every day people to connect through a regular and reliable service. The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community."Nic & Lucas – Co-Founders
"When you’ve been homeless for such a long time, it’s the small things that can give you a little bit more hope. Orange Sky alleviates a lot of pressure out of people’s lives and that can really help."George – A friend of Orange Sky
"Being out on an Orange Sky is the highlight of my week. Every conversation that I have with one of our friends reminds me of the impact we are making and the connection that we provide for so many Australian and New Zealanders."Helen – A volunteer at Orange Sky
Cisco and Orange Sky are building the bridge to human connection, together. Through IoT, networking and collaboration, Orange Sky continue to increase the speed and productivity of their operation and their ability to pioneer their world-changing vans, positively connecting communities all over.
