Case Study: City of Pforzheim

Pforzheim is known for innovation - in watchmaking as well as in the network infrastructure.

A city with 130,000 inhabitants, Pforzheim is proactively updating its IT. During the last refresh, it was important to implement a future-proof network that was able to combine security, mobility and IoT and to support the city on its way to becoming a smart city. The solution selected is software-defined access based on Cisco DNA.

The problem

  • An aging network that was not up to the current requirements
  • Minimal flexibility and mobility through different networks at the locations
  • Inadequate security for IoT, BYOD and guest access

The solution

The results

  • More visibility through valuable metadata
  • Robust security level through integration and segmentation of IoT and other devices
  • All locations in the city can be managed from a central management

SD-Access as the complete solution

With the [Cisco] DNA Center Dashboard, we can control, monitor and manage the entire network from a single workstation.
