Chapter: Control Hub

Control Hub

Many settings and features are enabled by default. But you can customize these items to suit your needs.

Set up features for a single device

All Cloud-based features are configured and controlled from Control Hub. You can enable different features as your needs change.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com/, go to Devices.

Step 2

Select your device from the inventory.
Step 3

Scroll down and select Advanced Configurations.

Step 4

Select the feature and configure the settings.
Step 5

Click Apply.

Step 6

Click Close.

Control Hub parameters

Customize your device from Control Hub so it suits your needs.


Note

If you use Standby, then note the following limitations:

  • Standby requires Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) so connect your device to a display port that supports HDMI-CEC.

  • Some HDMI display screens support HDMI-CEC, but don't support Standby.

  • Don't deploy a HMI switch between your display screen and the device.

  • You may have to enable Standby on the display screen and configure the feature settings in Control Hub .

Refer to the HDMI display screen documentation for additional information about Standby.

The following table describes the features available in Control Hub. Use this information as you configure your features.

Create Workspaces and add services

Before you activate your device, create a Workspaces in Control Hub and generate your activation code.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Workspaces, and then click Add Workspace.

Step 2

Enter a name for the place.
Step 3

(Optional) Customize your Workspaces with Capacity, Type, and Location.

Step 4

Click Next
Step 5

Choose Cisco Webex Rooms device, and click Next.

You can only have one room or desk device in a Workspaces.

Step 6

Choose your call service:

  • Call on Webex—Select this option for Unified CM Calling with Control Hub. Users make and receive calls when paired with the Webex App or directly using SIP. All calls remain on-premises that are not made through the Webex App.

  • Webex Calling—Select this option for Webex Calling. You don't assign a number.

Step 7

Click Next.

Step 8

If you toggled on the calendar service, enter or paste the email address of the calendar mailbox for the device. This is the email address that you use to schedule meetings.

  • For devices that will be scheduled in Google Calendar, enter the Google resource email address from G Suites (Calendar > Resources). See About calendar resources (rooms, etc) for more information.

  • For devices that will be scheduled in Microsoft Exchange or Office 365, enter the email address of the room mailbox. See Create and Manage Room Mailboxes for more information.

Step 9

Click Next.

Step 10

Activate the device with the code provided.

Lock your device settings

This feature is supported on Webex Room Phone only.

Administrators can lock some of the phone settings from Control Hub. This is a good way to limit the people with access to the settings, and it prevents accidental changes to important parameters.

You cannot unlock the parameters from the phone so don't perform this task until after phone activation.

This feature locks the following settings:

  • Language

  • Time zone

  • Device activation

  • Network connection

  • Reset

Parameters are locked as a group. You cannot lock individual settings.

A hard factory reset unlocks the phone settings.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Workspace, and do a search for your workspace.

Step 2

Select the workspace, go to Devices, and click the cogwheel icon.

Step 3

Toggle on Lock Settings on Touch Devices.

Step 4

Click Done.

Add the Calendar Service

The Calendar feature integrates your online calendar with your device so you can see your upcoming Webex meetings. Most people configure this service at deployment, but you can add it later.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Workspaces and choose your Workspaces.

Step 2

Click Edit.

Step 3

Toggle on the calendar service so that people can use One Button to Push (OBTP) on this device. Click Next.

Step 4

Enter the email address for the calendar.

  • For Google Calendar, enter the Google resource email address from G-Suites (Calendar > Resources).

  • For Microsoft Exchange or Office 365, enter the email address of the room mailbox.

Step 5

Click Save.

Configure Digital signage

Digital signage allows you to show customized content on your device when it is idle. You can display advertising content and promote your brand, but also show visitor and internal employee announcements or information.

Signage mode occurs after several minutes of inactivity. Images don’t appear during meetings, screen sharing, or during upcoming scheduled calendar events.

Note the following specifications:

  • The maximum resolution is 1920x1080. If you upload an image that is bigger, AppSpace resizes it.

  • The supported static image file formats are .png and .jpeg.


Note

Your screen display settings affect your Digital Signage images. If your static images appear distorted or of a poor quality, then change your TV's display settings. For example, some display manufactures let you lower your Sharpness setting or change Picture Mode to Computer or the equivalent. For additional information, see the documentation that came with your TV.

After you configure Digital Signage, the following Standby settings change:

  • Standby > Control resets to On.

  • Standby > Delay resets to 120 minutes and Standby mode. This is the delay before the device enters Standby mode.

HTML5 is not supported.

Before you begin

You need an AppSpace administrator account and an HTTPS URL for your AppSpace channel.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com/, go to Devices.

Step 2

Select your device from the inventory and open Advanced Configurations.

Step 3

Select DigitalSignageServer.

Step 4

Enter your AppSpace URL in the field.
Step 5

Click Apply.

View your device data from Control Hub

You can view your device data with the Analytics tool in Control Hub, including device utilization and feature usage. Use this information to determine how often devices are in use or which features are popular with users.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Analytics.

Step 2

Click Devices.

Step 3

Select your device from the Type of device drop-down list.

Generate a new activation code

You generate your Activation code when you create your Workspaces in Control Hub. But the code expires after 7 days so users may require a new one.

Procedure

Step 1

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Workspaces.

Step 2

Search for the Workspaces associated with your device and select it.

Step 3

Click Generate Activation Code.

The code displays on your computer screen.
Step 4

Enter the activation code on your device.
