Configuring VDS-IS CDE280 Disks
Before you begin ensure that you have installed Java Version 6.45 in your machine.
Once the new disks are inserted to the CDE-280, the physical status of the new disks will be in Just a Bunch of Disks (JBOD) state and the virtual status will be blank. To update the physical drive and virtual drive statuses for the disks, you can follow one of the two methods:
Changing the Disk Status Using KVM Console
To change the physical drive status of the new disks from JBOD to Online and to update the virtual drive status, perform the following steps:
Step 1
Log into the UCS Management controller.
Step 2
Click the Server tab.
Step 3
Choose Summary > Launch KVM Console to launch the Console.
The KVM Console triggers the Java Application which is already installed in the PC and the Opening viewer popup window appears.
Step 4
In the Opening viewer popup window, select the Open with drop-down list, choose Java(TM) Web Start Launcher
Step 5
Click OK.
The Warning – Security popup window appears.
Step 6
Click Continue in the Warning – Security popup window.
Step 7
From the KVM Console, choose Power > Power Cycle Systems (cold boot).
Step 8
Press Ctrl-R key combination to run the MegaRAID Configuration Utility, if the message as show in Figure E-1appears in the KVM Console.

On successful completion, the MegaRAID configuration utility is loaded and the Virtual Drive Management window displays the No Configuration Present message under Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid(Bus 0x04, Dev 0x00). All the 24 new disks that are added are listed under Controller.

Step 10
Select Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid(Bus 0x04, Dev 0x00) and press F2 to change the disk status from JBOD to Online.
Step 11
Choose Make Unconfigured Good from the drop-down list and press Enter.

Select all the JBOD disks to change the status to Unconfigured Good.
Note
You can use the Space bar to select all the Disks in JBOD state.

Select OK and press Enter.
On successful conversion, you can view all the disks displayed under Unconfigured Drives in the Virtual Drive Management (VD Mgmt) window.
Step 14
Press Ctrl-N key combination to go to Physical Drive Management (PD Mgmt) window.
You can view all the disks state as Unconfigured Good in the PD Management window.

To verify the physical status of the disk, choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Physical Drive Info from the CIMC Console.
You can view that the physical drive status is changed as Unconfigured Good.

Step 16
To modify the status of the Virtual Drive Info, from the KVM Console, select Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid(Bus 0x04, Dev 0x00) in the Virtual Drive Management window and press F2.

Select Create Virtual Drive from the drop-down list and press Enter.

Select a single disk using Spacebar to create a Virtual Drive under the Virtual Drive Management window as shown in Figure E-8, and.

Select OK.
The confirmation popup window appears. Select OK and view the Virtual Drive created using the selected disk.
Step 20
Repeat the procedure from step 16 to step 19 for creating virtual drives with the entire unconfigured drives.
On successful creation of the virtual drives for each disk you can view 24 Device Groups and 24 Virtual Drives under the Controller information.

To verify the status of the virtual drive status, choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Virtual Drive Info.
The Virtual Drives area displays the following status:
- Status—Optimal
- Health—Good
- RAID Level—RAID 0

Changing Drive Status Using CIMC Console
To change the physical drive status of the new disks from JBOD to Online and to update the virtual drive status, perform the following steps:
Step 1
Launch the CIMC Console.
Step 2
Choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Physical Drive Info.
Step 3
To change the physical drive status, select the disks that are in JBOD state and click Set State as Unconfigured Good radio button.

A warning message is displayed. Click OK to change the status of the physical drive.
Step 4
To verify the status of the physical drive, choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Physical Drive Info from the CIMC Console.
You can view that the physical drive status is changed as Unconfigured Good.

Step 5
Repeat the step 3 for all the Individual JBOD Disks till the status of all the disks are changed to Unconfigured Good.

Click the Controller Info tab and click the Create Virtual Drive from Unused Physical Drives radio button.

Select the Disk to be added to the Device Group and click the >>.

To verify the status of the disks for which the Device Group is created, choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Physical Drive Info.
You can view the Physical Drive status is changed as Online.

To verify the status of the Virtual Drive, choose Storage > Cisco 12G SAS Modular Raid Controller (SLOT-HBA) > Virtual Drive Info.
The status of a single disk appears as follows:
- Status—Optimal
- Health—Good
- RAID Level—RAID 0

Step 11
Repeat the procedure from step 6 to step 8 for all the disks that are marked as Unconfigured Good.
