Cisco NX-OS RISE Commands

Revised October 24, 2013

This appendix describes the Cisco NX-OS RISE commands for the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switches. The Cisco NX-OS software supports the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switches including the Cisco Nexus 7700 switches. You can find detailed information about supported hardware in the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Hardware Installation and Reference Guide.

attach rise

To connect the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch to the RISE service module, use the attach rise command in EXEC mode.

attach rise {slot slot-number | name name}

Syntax Description

slot slot-number

Specifies the slot number of the RISE service module.

The range varies based on the valid slot numbers for a particular VDC. The Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch supports 32 RISE instances per VDC. The slot number range is as follows:

300-331 for VDC 1

332-363 for VDC 2

364-395 for VDC 3

396-427 for VDC 4

name name

Specifies the name of the RISE service module. You can enter up to 32 alphanumeric characters for the name.

Command
Description

feature rise

service type rise name

Configures a RISE service instance on the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch.

shutdown (RISE configuration mode)

To shut down a RISE service instance on the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch, use the shutdown command in RISE configuration mode. To launch the auto-discovery and bootstrap configuration process, use the no form of this command.

shutdown

no shutdown

Syntax Description

This command has no arguments or keywords.

Defaults

None

Command Modes

RISE configuration mode

Supported User Roles

network-admin
vdc-admin

Command History

Cisco NX-OS Release
Modification

6.2(2a)

This command was introduced.

Usage Guidelines

Use the shutdown command to disable an instance of RISE without removing the configuration.

If the NetScaler appliance is directly connected to the switch, the no shutdown command launches the auto-discovery and bootstrap configuration process. The appliance port channel is created with the RISE IP address set at the NetScaler appliance.

If the NetScaler appliance is indirectly connected to the switch, the no shutdown command launches the bootstrap configuration process but skips the auto-discovery process.

In either mode, the switch associates the NetScaler appliance serial number with the virtual slot number for this NetScaler appliance.

Discovery does not start if any required information (such as the port, RISE VLAN, RISE IP address, or SVI of the RISE VLAN) is not provided. If the discovery times out, the virtual module is shown in the inactive state.

This command does not require a license.

Examples

This example shows how to shut down the ace1 instance of RISE on the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch:

switch# configure terminal
switch(config)# service type rise name ace1 mode direct
switch(config-rise)# shutdown

This example shows how to launch the auto-discovery and bootstrap configuration process when the NetScaler appliance is directly connected to the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch:

switch# configure terminal
switch(config)# service type rise name netscaler1 mode direct
switch(config-rise)# vlan group 1
switch(config-rise)# interface port-channel 1

Usage Guidelines

This VLAN controls message communication with the supervisor over the RISE port channel. The same VLAN can be used for the management VLAN of the NetScaler appliance.

The VLAN ID and SVI interface must be created before the RISE channel can be established. The IP address of the SVI interface is the supervisor IP address for the NetScaler appliance to communicate with and send the control messages.

In direct mode, a VLAN is assigned automatically from a reserved pool.

The trunk-allowed VLANs on the port channel must include all of the VLANs in the VLAN group as well as the VLAN for the RISE control message.

This command does not require a license.

Examples

This example shows how to assign a VLAN and a VLAN group to an NetScaler appliance that is indirectly connected to the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch:

switch(config-rise)# vlan 10
switch(config-rise)# ip 10.10.10.5/24
switch(config-rise)# vlan group 1
