Note

We recommend that you wait 30 seconds between removal and insertion of an SFP on an interface module. This allows the transceiver software to initialize and synchronize with the standby RSP. Changing an SFP more quickly could result in transceiver initialization issues that disable the SFP.

Install SFP/QSFP Modules

This section describes how to install QSFP 28 and SFP 28 transceiver modules on your switch.

Procedure

1.

Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap to your wrist and to an earth ground surface.
2.

Find the send (TX) and receive (RX) markings that identify the top of the SFP/SFP+ module.

On some SFP/SFP+ modules, the send and receive (TX and RX, respectively) markings might be indicated by arrows that show the direction of the connection.
3.

Align the module in front of the slot opening and push until you feel the connector snap into place.

If the SFP/SFP+ module has a bale-clasp latch, move it to the open, unlocked position. Close the bale-clasp latch it to lock the SFP/SFP+ module in place.
4.

Remove the SFP and SFP+ dust plugs and save.
5.

Connect the SFP and SFP+ cables.

Remove SFP/QSFP Modules

Use the extraction and removal tools to remove the optics cable and optics module for the SFP 28/QSFP 28 transceivers. The PID number for both these together is 53-102113-01.

Before you begin

Note

The transceiver module is a static-sensitive device. Always use an ESD wrist strap or similar individual grounding device when handling transceiver modules or coming into contact with modules.

Procedure

1.

Use the SFP removal tool and pinch the tab of the fiber-optic cable to disengage the clip. Remove the fiber-optic cable from the transceiver module.
2.

Use the optics extraction tool to carefully disengage the latch and remove the transceiver module.
3.

Place the transceiver module in an antistatic bag or other protective environment.
