This preface introduces the Cisco Network Building Mediator Release 3.1.1 and Cisco Network Building Mediator Manager Release 1.1.1 XML-RPC API Guide and includes the following sections:

Audience

This guide is for application developers with expertise in implementing third-party software command calls through the use of API functions. The administrator should have experience with server and storage administration, network administration, and network security.

Organization

This guide is organized as follows:

Chapter	Title	Description
Chapter 1	Getting Started	Provides an overview of the XML-RPC protocol.
Chapter 2	Working with Mediator Framework	Describes the Mediator framework and the types of nodes supported in the framework.
Chapter 3	RNA Over XML-RPC	Describes the Remote Node Abstraction (RNA) subservice, and the procedure to create and use a node proxy.
Chapter 4	Services	Describes the two special services available in the Mediator framework.

Document Conventions

Screen examples use these conventions:

screen font	Terminal sessions and information the switch displays are in screen font.
boldface screen font	Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.
< >	Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets.
[ ]	Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets.
#	A pound sign (#) at the beginning of a line of code indicates a comment line.
