Cisco IOS Software Requirements
Preparing to Install MWTM
This chapter can help you plan your installation of MWTM. This chapter describes MWTM's installation methods, supported platforms, and hardware and software requirements. It includes the following sections:

Installation Methods
You can install the MWTM server and client software on the same workstation or on different workstations. You can install the MWTM server and client software locally or remotely using one of the following methods:
•From a locally-mounted DVD-ROM drive
•From a Network File System-exported DVD-ROM drive
•From the MWTM Web server (MWTM client software only)

Licensing Information
MWTM is comprised of the following elements:
•Media Kit Software CD—CD media for installing server and client software
•Node Right-To-Use (RTU) License—Legal document that entitles the end user to manage Cisco MWR 1941 routers using MWTM (up to the number of nodes purchased)
•Standby Server RTU License—Legal document that entitles the end user to install two MWTM servers in a redundant fashion
•Software Application Support (SAS)—Provides software support and software upgrades for MWTM (one SAS contract is needed per RTU license purchased)
Supported Platforms
MWTM 5.0 supports the following operating system platforms:
•Sun Solaris version 2.8 or 2.9 with the latest recommended patches from Sun Microsystems, Inc. (MWTM server and client)
Note Sun Solaris versions 2.8 and 2.9 are equal to Sun Solaris versions 8 and 9, respectively.
•RedHat Enterprise Linux version 3.0 AS AMD64 (Linux server only)
•Windows 2000 Professional (MWTM client only)
•Windows XP Professional (MWTM client only)
MWTM 5.0 supports the following Cisco RAN-O devices:
•MWR 1941-DC
•VWIC-2T1/E1-RAN
System Requirements
System requirements for installing MWTM on Solaris, Linux or Windows can be found in the MWTM README.txt file on the MWTM DVD-ROM.
CiscoWorks and HP OpenView
MWTM does not require either CiscoWorks or HP OpenView, but MWTM does integrate with those products to provide added value. If you want to install and operate MWTM, CiscoWorks, and HP OpenView on the same device at the same time, see the MWTM README.txt file for memory and disk space requirements.
If you want to integrate MWTM with CiscoWorks, you should know the name of the host on which CiscoWorks is installed, and the CiscoWorks Web Server port number (the default is 1741).
Cisco IOS Software Requirements
To run MWTM, or to be manageable by MWTM, RAN-O devices must run the following Cisco IOS software release:
•12.4(2)MR1
To see the latest information about the versions of IOS with which MWTM is compatible, use one of the following procedures:
•Enter the MWTM iosinfo command.
•Select System ITP IOS README from the MWTM Server Home Page.
RAN-O Requirements
When you configure the RAN-O network, keep the following MWTM considerations in mind:
•You must configure each network element to be reachable via IP networking to or from the MWTM server (you must be able to ping each MWR from the MWTM server).
•You must configure network elements to use SNMP community names. MWTM requires that the names be at least read-only (RO), but read-write (RW) names also work.
•You should enable network elements to use SNMP traps. (The MWTM trap receiver supports SNMP traps for both version v1 and v2c, but not version v3.)
You can also enable network elements to use ENVMON traps, to enable MWTM to handle and display environmental events, but this is not required.
•The host IP address used for traps must be the MWTM server's IP address.
Also, for full access to MWTM commands and functions, set the SNMP trap port number to a value greater than 1024. By default, MWTM listens for traps from trap multiplexing devices and NMS applications on port 44750, so that is a good port number to choose. The SNMP trap port number must be the same on all RAN-O devices in your network.
•To minimize lost traps, set the length of the message queue for each trap host to at least 100.
•To enable MWTM to log more than one line of Syslog, set the logging history size to 500.
To implement these requirements on a network element, enter the following IOS commands on the network element:

•public is the SNMP community name the network element is to use.
•mwtm-ip-address is the IP address of the MWTM server.
•port-number is the SNMP trap port number of the network element and of the MWTM server, either 162 (the default) or 44750.

Note If, in addition to MWTM, you are using other network management products to receive traps from network elements, those network elements might require additional IOS commands to enable them to use additional traps.
