Explains how fabric spine switches advertise BGP EVPN type-2 MAC-IP host routes to a DCIG to improve traffic-forwarding efficiency in Multi-Pod deployments.
BGP EVPN type-2 host route distribution is a fabric control-plane feature that
-
enables spine switches to advertise individual MAC-IP host routes to a DCIG.
-
replaces reliance on EVPN type-5 IP prefix routes for public BD subnets.
-
improves traffic-forwarding paths in Multi-Pod deployments.
Requirements for host route distribution
Host route distribution requires the following configuration:
-
BGP address family context policy: Enable Enable Host Route Leak.
-
Policy location: For GOLF deployments, configure the BGP address family context policy in the application tenant, not the infra tenant.
-
Fabric external connection policy: For a single-pod fabric, provide the ETEP IP address so that endpoint routes are leaked to BGP EVPN.
-
VRF association: In the VRF properties, add the BGP address family context policy to BGP Context Per Address Families for IPv4 and IPv6.
-
BGP route-target profiles: Configure the profiles that identify the routes that the VRF imports or exports.
