Explains how a bridge domain profile groups SVIs that use different access VLAN encapsulations into a single Layer 2 broadcast domain.

A bridge domain profile associates multiple regular SVIs with different access VLAN encapsulations so that the SVIs operate in the same Layer 2 broadcast domain.

SVI grouping example

The figure shows three regular SVIs deployed on three vPC pairs and grouped in one bridge domain profile.

Figure 1. SVIs grouped in a bridge domain profile
Three regular SVIs grouped in one bridge domain profile across three vPC pairs

The example uses these vPC pairs:

  • node101 and node102

  • node103 and node104

  • node105 and node106

The SVI and access encapsulation assignments are as follows:

  • svi-100 uses access encapsulation vlan100 on node101 and node102.

  • svi-101 uses access encapsulation vlan101 on node103 and node104.

  • svi-102 uses access encapsulation vlan102 on node105 and node106.

A bridge domain profile, represented by the l3extBdProfile managed object, groups the three SVIs. The profile has a unique name. The l3extBdProfileCont and l3extRsBdProfile managed objects associate each SVI with the profile.
