Initial release.

Overview

Cisco DNA Center provides an extensible platform that Cisco customers and partners can use to create value-added applications that can be built on top of its native capabilities. You can leverage the following Cisco DNA Center platform features to enhance the overall network experience by optimizing end-to-end IT processes, reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and developing new value networks:

  • Intent APIs

  • Integration Flows

  • Multivendor Support

  • Events and Notification Services

What's New in the Cisco DNA Center Platform, Release 1.3.3.0

The following are the new features and functionalities for the Cisco DNA Center platform, Release 1.3.3.0.

Configuration Management Database Enhancements

This release supports new Configuration Management Database (CMDB) enhancements. You can now map inventory and SWIM fields from Cisco DNA Center to the ServiceNow CMDB for synchronization. Specifically, the fields of a configuration item (CI) can be mapped as attributes or reference fields. Additionally, each CI can be assigned to a specific CI class. For example, you can designate ServiceNow Network Configuration Items (CI) with Device Type CI Classes, such as routers, switches, and so on.

As a system administrator, you perform the preceding tasks using the Cisco DNA Center GUI. Click Platform > Manage > Bundles > Basic ITSM (ServiceNow) CMDB synchronization to perform these tasks using the GUI.

Integration domain developers can programmatically access relevant fields using APIs to perform the above tasks. For example, developers can change mandatory fields to optional and vice versa using APIs, as required for their customized needs.

Note

Cisco provides recommended mapping values for the CMDB synchronization in the GUI. Many of these recommended mappings (but not all) can be changed by the user.

For detailed information about the new CMDB enhancements for the Cisco DNA Center platform, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

SWIM Closed Loop Automation with ServiceNow

This release supports closed loop automation for software image management (SWIM) between Cisco DNA Center and ServiceNow. Closed-loop automation consists of a user configuring the provisioning of software device images in Cisco DNA Center. This configuration information is then communicated directly from Cisco DNA Center to ServiceNow as an immediate or scheduled change request. The ServiceNow administrator reviews the change request and either approves or rejects it in ServiceNow. The change request acceptance or rejection is then communicated back to Cisco DNA Center.

After receipt of an approved change request from ServiceNow, Cisco DNA Center performs the software update at that time (immediately) or at its scheduled future time.

After Cisco DNA Center successfully performs the software update, a notification (task completed) is sent back to ServiceNow. If the software update fails, this is also communicated back to ServiceNow (task fail), so that the user can then manually perform the software update in Cisco DNA Center.

Note

If the SWIM provisioning is stopped by the user in Cisco DNA Center during this process, a task aborted notification is sent to ServiceNow.

Note

This feature requires the Cisco DNA app for ServiceNow to be installed and configured within your ServiceNow instance.

For detailed information about the new closed-loop automation with ServiceNow feature, see the Cisco DNA Center ITSM Integration Guide.

Updated Cisco DNA Center Platform GUI

The following updates have been made to the Cisco DNA Center platform GUI for this release.

Bundles Updates

The following updates have been made to Bundles in the Cisco DNA Center platform GUI:

  • For the Basic ITSM (ServiceNow) CMDB synchronization bundle, the following new tasks using new GUI windows have been added to support the CMDB synchronization enhancements:

    • Select Destination

    • Select Inventory Data Fields

    • Update Transforms

Additionally, the integration flow has changed from Create Inventory List to Schedule to Publish Inventory Details-ServiceNow Connector.

    Note

To access the Bundles window, click Platform > Manage > Bundles.

  • For the SWIM Events for ITSM (ServiceNow) bundle, the integration flow, Schedule to publish SWIM events - ServiceNow Connector has been removed from the Contents tab. Previously, you could view this integration flow by clicking Platform > Manage > Bundle > SWIM Events for ITSM (ServiceNow) and then the Contents tab. This change occurred due to the new closed-loop automation with ServiceNow feature.

  • The SWIM Events for REST API Endpoints bundle has been deprecated with this release and will be removed from future releases. This change occurred due to the new closed loop automation with ServiceNow feature.

For detailed information about the updated GUI for the Cisco DNA Center platform, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

Configurations Updates

The following updates have been made to Configurations in the Cisco DNA Center platform GUI:

  • The Device Image Outdated (SWIM event) is removed from the Event Settings page. To access the Event Settings window, click Platform > Manage > Configurations > Event Settings.

For detailed information about the updated GUI for the Cisco DNA Center platform, see the Cisco DNA Center Platform User Guide.

Executive Summary Reports

This release supports a new Executive Summary reporting feature. The Executive Summary reporting feature permits you to analyze how your network is performing with detailed data about network devices and clients. You access the Executive Summary feature using the Cisco DNA Center GUI. Click Platform > Developer Toolkit > Data and Reports > Executive Reports (either Sample to view a sample or Schedule to schedule a report).

The following data is available from these reports:

  • Overall health summary, including network device health as a percentage, wired client health percentage, and wireless client health percentage.

  • Comparison data against the previous time periods.

  • Top sites by issue.

  • Top issues with categories.

Note

Date and time values in the Executive Summary reports are based on the Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) standard.

The following issues are open with this bug:

  • In the Cisco DNA Center Platform GUI, click Manage > Configurations > General Settings > CMDB Synchronization Settings. When you add an instance or edit an instance, the first page side header, Select Destination needs to be moved below the instance name/description or the select destination details needs to be moved to the second page.

  • The mandatory validation for an instance name is missing. If the user does not enter the instance name, the redirection goes to the last page and clicking on the Save button is not working.

  • Creating a duplicate instance with same name is not throwing a validation error (clicking on the Save button is not working).

Limitations and Restrictions

The following sections describe the limitations and restrictions for this release.

IP Address Manager Integration

The following are the limitations and workarounds for IP Address Manager integration with Cisco DNA Center:

  • Infoblox:

    • Infoblox does not expose a name attribute; therefore, the comment field in Infoblox is populated by the IP pool name during a sync.

    • For a pool import, the first 50 characters of the comment field are used. If there are spaces in the comments, they are replaced by underscores.

    • If an IP pool name is updated for an imported pool, the comments are overwritten and the new name is reflected.

  • BlueCat: There are no limitations identified with BlueCat integration at this time.

Reports

Reports with significant data can sometimes fail to generate in the Cisco DNA Center platform. If this occurs, we recommend that you use filters to reduce the report size to prevent such failures.
