VLAN Protocol Groups give the device the ability to create groups based on the type of protocol such as IP, IPX, IPv6, or ARP or based on the Ethernet based protocol value. These groups are then assigned to VLANs.
The objective of this document is to show you how to add and delete VLAN Protocol Groups on SFE/SGE Series Stackable Switches.
• SFE/SGE Stackable Managed Switches
• v3.0.0.17
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility, choose Bridging > VLAN Management > Protocol Group. The Protocol Group page opens:
Step 2. Click the Add button. The Add Protocol Group window appears:
The Frame Type field shows what is used for the packet.
Step 3. Click the desired radio button for how the protocol value will be defined. If Ethernet-Based Protocol Value was selected, skip to Step 5.
• Protocol Value — Uses the port for the protocol that is chosen from a drop down list. Use this if unsure of the exact value for the port.
• Ethernet-Based Protocol Value — Uses the port value entered into the Ethernet-Based Protocol Field.Use this if sure of the exact port value.
Step 4. Choose the desired protocol from the Protocol Value drop-down list.
• IP — Uses IP set the Ethernet port.
• IPX — Uses IPX to set the Ethernet port.
• IPv6 — Uses IPv6 to set the Ethernet port.
• ARP — Uses ARP to set the Ethernet port.
Step 5. Enter a value in hex format in the Ethernet-Based Protocol Value field. This value cannot be one of the reserved ports already reserved.
Step 6. Enter an ID for the group in the Group ID field.
Step 7. Click Apply to add the VLAN Protocol Group.
Caution: This only saves your configuration to the running configuration file. This means any changes made will be lost if the device is rebooted. If you wish to save these changes even after a system reboot, you need to copy the running configuration file to the startup configuration file. See Copy Configuration File on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches for more information on how to do this.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility, choose Bridging > VLAN Management > Protocol Group. The Protocol Group page opens:
Step 2. Click Edit to change the corresponding VLAN protocol group. The Edit Protocol Group window appears:
Note: The Frame Type displays what is being used to determine the frames used.
Note: The Protocol Value shows the number of the port being used.
Step 3. Change the Group ID field to set the ID for the group. This field only accepts hex values.
Step 4. Click Apply to save the changes to the protocol group
