This article explains the configuration of VLAN Interface settings on SFE/SGE Managed Switches. A VLAN is a group of ports that enables devices associated with it to communicate between each other over the Ethernet MAC layer, regardless of the physical LAN of the network to which they are connected. VLAN interface settings are used to configure the VLAN interface on the SFE/SGE Managed Switches.
• SFE/SGE Managed Switches
• v3.0.2.0
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose VLAN Management > Interface Settings. The Interface Settings page opens:
Step 2. Click the Ports or LAGs radio button to bring up a list of interfaces on it.
Step 3. Click Edit. The Edit Port window appears:
Step 4. (Optional) Choose the interface from the Interface drop-down list.
Step 5. Choose the VLAN Mode from the drop-down list.
• General — General mode is more flexible. It can transmit tagged or untagged packets in the selected VLANs.
• Access — Specifies the VLAN traffic carried by the access mode interface. The access mode port only sends and accepts untagged frames on the specific VLAN.
• Trunk — Designed to connect 2 switches. Carries both untagged packets and tagged packets.
• Customer — The switch interface is in Q-in-Q mode when customer has one or more ports. Enables the user to use their own VLAN arrangements across the provider network.
Step 6. Enter the Administrative PVID value in the PVID field. This is the Port VLAN ID (PVID) of a VLAN to which the untagged or priority tagged frames are given a value to identify. It has a range from 1 - 4094.
Step 7. The Frame Type drop-down list is enabled only when you choose General from the VLAN Mode drop-down list in Step 5. It differentiates which frame is to be received or discarded.
• Admit All — Accepts all types of frames like untagged frames or tagged frames or priority tagged frames.
• Admit Tag Only — Accepts only tagged frames.
Step 8. The Ingress Filtering drop-down list is enabled only when you choose General from the VLAN Mode drop-down list in Step 5. It discards all the incoming frames to that interface which are not the member of VLANs.
Step 9. The Multicast TV VLAN drop-down list is enabled only when you choose Access from the VLAN Mode drop-down list in Step 5. It provides the ability to supply Multicast transmissions to Layer 2 without replicating the Multicast transmissions for all subscriber VLANs. The subscribers are the only receivers of the Multicast transmissions.
Step 10. Click Apply.
Caution: This only saves your configuration to the running configuration file. This means any changes made will be lost if the device is rebooted. If you wish to save these changes even after a system reboot, you need to copy the running configuration file to the startup configuration file. See Copy Configuration File on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches for more information on how to do this
