A static MAC address can be assigned to a specific interface on the SLM Series switch. This is beneficial since a static address will increase port security. When a static address is seen on another interface, the address will be ignored and will not be written to the address table.
The objective of this document is to show you how to configure a static MAC address on a SLM Series Switch.
• SLM Series Switches
• v2.0.0.8
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility of the switch and choose Admin > Static Address. The Static Address page opens:
Step 2. In the Interface field, click the Port radio button and choose a port number from its drop-down list, or click the LAG radio button and choose a LAG number from its drop-down list.
• Port — This specifies the port number to which the forwarding database parameters refer.
• LAG — This specifies the Line Aggregation Group (LAG) number to which the forwarding database parameters refer. A LAG uses multiple ports that act as a single connection, which increases speed and reliability.
Step 3. In the MAC Address field, enter the MAC address of the connecting device.
Step 4. Choose how you would like to identify the device's VLAN by clicking the desired radio button:
• VLAN ID — Identifies the VLAN of the device with a number.
• VLAN NAME — Identifies the VLAN of the device with a name.
Step 5. Choose the VLAN of the connecting device from the corresponding drop-down list.
Step 6. In the Status field, choose a status from the drop-down list. The available options are:
• Permanent — The MAC address is permanent so it will remain configured to the switch.
• Delete on Reset — The MAC address is deleted when the device is reset.
• Delete on Timeout — The MAC address is deleted when a timeout occurs. The default timeout is 300 seconds.
• Secure — The MAC address is defined for locked ports.
Step 7. Click Add to List to add your MAC address to the MAC Address table.
Step 8. (Optional) To delete the entry from the MAC Address table, choose a MAC address entry and click Delete.
Step 9. Click Save Settings to save your changes or click Cancel Changes to cancel your changes.
