Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is used to keep track of all devices that are directly connected IP subnets of the switch. The switch maintains an ARP table which maps the IP address of the device to its MAC address. When a packet needs to be routed to a certain device, the switch looks up the IP address of the device in its ARP table to obtain the MAC address of the destination device. The ARP table includes both static and dynamic addresses. Static addresses stay in the ARP Table until they are manually removed, while dynamic addresses are removed after a specified time-out interval.
This document explains how to configure Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) parameters and ARP table configuration on ESW2-350G Switches.
• ESW2-350G
• ESW2-350G-DC
• 1.3.0.62
Step 1. Log in to the switch configuration utility and choose IP Configuration > ARP. The ARP page opens:
Step 2. Enter the ARP entry age out time in the ARP Entry Age Out field. The default value is 300. After a specific amount of time the ARP entries are removed from the table.
Step 3. Click one of the following radio buttons in the Clear ARP Table Entries field to describe which ARP table entries need to be cleared from the ARP Table.
• All — Removes all the static and dynamic ARP entries.
• Dynamic — Removes only the dynamic ARP entries. Dynamic ARP entries are the MAC addresses learned dynamically.
• Static — Removes only the Static ARP entries. Static ARP entries are the entries entered by the administrator to the ARP table.
• Normal Age Out — Removes all the exceeded age out ARP entries.
Step 4. Click Apply.
Step 1. Log in to the switch configuration utility and choose IP Configuration > ARP. The ARP page opens:
Note: Configuration of static ARP over default IP address is not allowed. Management interface needs to be changed to static. Refer to the article IPv4 Interface Configuration on ESW2-350G Switches.
Step 2. Click Add.The Add ARP page opens:
Step 3. In the IP Address field, enter the IP address of the host to which the MAC address is to be configured.
Step 4. Enter the MAC address of the host in the MAC address field.
Step 5. Click Apply.
Step 1. Check the desired check box of the corresponding ARP entry which needs to be edited or deleted from the ARP Table.
Step 2. (Optional) Click Delete to delete the ARP entry. If an invalid MAC address is being added to the ARP table which can be deleted.
Step 3. Click Edit.
Step 4. Choose the IP Address from the drop down list.
Step 5. (Optional) Edit the MAC address in the MAC Address field if the MAC address was added manually this field can be edited.
Step 6. Click one of the following radio buttons in the Status field. The status can be changed if the MAC address is learned dynamically by the switch.
• Dynamic — If the ARP entry should be dynamic.
• Static — If the ARP entry is added manually.
Step 7. Click Apply.
