Remote logging is a feature that allows the RV120W and RV220W to send messages relating to dropped packets, login attempts, and other device operation information to a remote location. This feature can allow you to easily remotely monitor multiple devices and to store logs securely on a remote network.
The objective of this document is to configure remote logging through email on the RV120W and RV220W firewall.
• RV120W
• RV220W
Step 1. Log in to the Security Configuration Utility and choose Administration> Logging> Remote Logging Configuration. The Remote Logging Configuration page opens:
Step 2. Enter a prefix in the Remote Log Identifier field to add a prefix to every logged message. This prefix will be added to both e-mail and syslog messages, and can be used for easier identification of the source device.
Step 3. Check the E-Mail Logs check-box to enable e-mail logs.
Step 4. Enter the IP address or Hostname of a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server in the E-Mail Server Address field. When required, the router will connect to this server to send e-mail logs.
Step 5. Enter the port number in the SMTP Port field to configure the port the router will use to connect to the server.
Step 6. Enter the E-Mail address in the Return E-Mail Address field where the replies from the SMTP server will be sent.
Step 7. Enter the E-Mail addresses in the Send To E-Mail Address(1), Send To E-Mail Address(2), and Send To E-Mail Address(3) fields where the logs and alerts are to be sent. The Send To E-Mail Address(2), and Send To E-Mail Address(3) fields are optional.
Step 8. If the SMTP server requires authentication before accepting connections, select either Login Plain or CRAM-MD5 and enter the username and password to be used for authentication. Select None if the SMTP server does not require any authentication.
Step 9. Click Test to confirm that the E-Mail logs function is configured correctly.
Step 10. Check the Respond to Identd from SMTP Server check-box to configure the router to respond to an IDENT request from the SMTP server.
Step 11. Click Save.
