This document describes the effect of adjusting the retention period on system quarantine on the Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA) as well as on the Cisco Security Management Appliance (SMA).
Changing the retention time does have an effect on messages already in the system quarantine. Before releasing messages, the Quarantine will check the message against the currently continued retention period. For example, sites using Virus Outbreak Filers (VOF) may wish to extend the retention period in cases where there may not be virus definitions provided by their anti-virus vendor(s) before the original retention period expires.
