For Cisco 12000 Eng4+ 4OC48E and OC192E line cards, the optical levels displayed in IOS with the show controller command are not correct.
The IOCPLD image was implemented at that time to fix a timing issue, but introduced this bug. This issue has no other impact on the functionality of the card. The IOCPLD image is not field upgradeable via IOS.
You can use the show controll optics command to view the optical levels for a card slot.
For example:
LC-Slot15#sh controll optics Rx optical power in mWs and dBms Rx power = 5.00 mW, + 6.990 dBm Rx AC optical power in mWs and dBms Rx AC power = 5.00 mW, + 6.990 dBm Tx optical power in mWs and dBms Tx power = 3.97 mW, + 5.911 dBm, 500.00% to BOL(Begin of Life) Tx laser diode forward bias current I(F) in milliamps Tx current = 125.000 mA
The show controller command displays the wrong optical levels on Cisco 12000 Engine 4+ line cards.
This is an IOS CLI display discrepancy that does not affect line card normal mode of operation. Customers can continue to use affected line cards without any impact to traffic handling.
