Product overview

You walk up to a vending machine in a mall to quench your thirst. You insert your card and select your favorite drink. The display reads “out of stock.” Disappointed, you walk away. It may be a few days until the drink is restocked. Anytime a vending machine runs out of inventory or is out of order, revenue is lost.

To maximize revenue, the beverage vendor needs to know the inventory level and whether the refrigeration is working properly, and also needs to protect the vending machine itself from theft. If the refrigeration breaks down, customers will be served warm drinks. If the inventory runs out, customers will be turned away, resulting in lost revenue. Servicing and maintaining thousands of such assets across dispersed locations is no easy task.

Existing connectivity solutions are tedious to deploy and manage. You have to manually activate each SIM cards by calling the Service Provider and need highly skilled technical staff to deploy the gateway. The connectivity can be intermittent and proactive notifications are almost nonexistent, leading to hours spent identifying and troubleshooting problems. This is even more true as you grow your total assets into hundreds, thousands, and even millions. As the number of connected assets increase, the security risk also increases. Assets could be exposed to security threats or vulnerabilities as breaches are on the rise. A security compromise could mean huge loss of revenue and reputation for the business.

Vending machines connected with Cisco® IoT Gateways provide real-time connectivity, allowing you to minimize downtime by managing inventory, monitoring the machines’ health, diagnosing problems quickly, and saving both time and money. You never walk away from vending machine without your favorite drink.
