Product overview

High-performance edge routing for service providers

Cisco’s 8000 Series K100-based routers and line cards deliver cutting-edge performance and flexibility tailored for service providers’ edge and aggregation networks. Powered by the Cisco Silicon One K100 processor, these devices offer up to 9.6 Tbps throughput with scalable port speeds from 1 Gbps to 400 Gbps, enabling seamless consolidation of wired and wireless services into a unified IP/Ethernet metro aggregation network. Designed for high-scale routing with advanced Quality of Service (QoS), telemetry, and security features such as MACsec, they support diverse service edge use cases including residential broadband, mobile crosshaul, and business services.

With a unified architecture and programmability, these routers simplify network operations and accelerate service deployment, helping providers deliver assured, Service-Level Agreement (SLA)-compliant services closer to end users while reducing total cost of ownership. The K100-based routers and line cards empower service providers to build agile, secure, and scalable networks that meet evolving connectivity demands efficiently and reliably.

Benefits

●     High-scale service edge capabilities: The Cisco Silicon One™ K100 processor powers third-generation service edge fixed, centralized, and modular systems plus line cards that deliver up to 9.6 Tbps throughput with flexible port speed configurations suitable for aggregation and edge deployments.

●     Flexible and scalable aggregation: The K100 processor supports a wide range of port speeds, from 1 Gbps to 400 Gbps, large Layer 2 and Layer 3 tables, extensive tunneling protocols, and large flow analytics and telemetry capabilities.

●     Optimized for service edge: Cisco® 8000 Series Routers are designed to consolidate traffic and services from wired and wireless access into IP/Ethernet metro aggregation networks, supporting infrastructure services critical for service edge transformation.

●     Advanced security and encryption: The routers provide MACsec on all ports, helping ensure secure deployments. They also include hardware-anchored root of trust and Secure Boot features to maintain device integrity.

●     Operational efficiency and automation: Integration with Cisco Crosswork® Network Automation and Assurance delivers real-time analytics and operational insights, simplifying network operations and improving agility at the service edge and aggregation points.

●     Form factor and deployment flexibility: The 8000 Series includes fixed and modular platforms optimized for distributed architectures, enabling deployment as edge routers, as aggregation routers, or as part of an edge fabric. This flexibility supports various network designs to optimize scale, redundancy, and cost.
